I just cleared all my auctioneer data and thought I'd post about it so all the outher AH users out there can be aware of the AH inflation.
Basically, I've noticed more and more poor-quality items show up on the AH scans, and fewer and fewer mats (which make a ton of money!) The reason is that people routinely overprice lowbie items, and mats (especially those 99g scammers out there). Also, there's no question that items change in price slowly over time -- when BC comes out, FR gear will plummet, and certainly many patches have subtly changed the frequency of certain drops.
Anyway, after a couple months of scanning, it's skewed the data and it's both making me miss some deals and overprice some items that then never sell.
I've dumped a lot of my stuff (just sent it to RedeemedBank) and I cleared all my auctioneer data. Just look out for inflation in the auctioneer data, and when you notice a significant change in the deals it's picking up (took me over 2 months of scanning at least once daily) you might clear it and start over. You can also clear individual items, but with thousands, that's a bit tedious!
Try to post all your auctions before clearing the data. Then do one scan just after clearing it. That way the auctioneer will at least save the price for each item you HAVE so you're not guessing next time you try to post that rare item.
