Arcane symbolism

Hi;this is my debut on this forum & hey! TOJ!; I'm glad
that i've found this Christian gaming site.
I want to know if I can eradicate All pentacles from Q3A?
I have tried to download pent-b-gone, but got server error msg's. It's a shame that such a brilliant game has
these demonic marks upon it;anyway the Vadrigar aliens
surely would'nt have known about such things!!?
it's all down to an occultist pratt ramming this purile non-
sense down our throats-jose romero!;methinks.

That's like saying the Strogg wouldn't know that humans are tasty to reduce to materials for recycling...
Think of it this way: Doom takes place on hot planets, but the aliens are cybernetically enhanced demons...so it makes sense they would have pentagrams and the like. Also, suppose the Vadrigar were in league with Satan? Why not? Since this is an alien race, let's assume an alien figure of Christ came and died for their sins...etc.

I don't think there is one (personally I just skip over it...too worried about staying alive and shooting the other guys to worry about some pixels that form a pentagram).
 
I wasn't aware such a program existed..I just don't support them by buying their games that contain that. Q2 was pretty clean though
 
Pshh...you don't need a program to get rid of the pentagrams. Just open pak0.pak in WinZip and delete/modify the offending textures. I haven't done so personally because those symbols don't bother me. First off, what makes them explicitly Satanic? Besides that, I'm saved through Jesus Christ and have Him with me at all times. If anyone knows what a 256x256 size texture with some pixels arranged in the shape of a questionable symbol can do against that, please begin explaining.

Anyway, welcome to the forums, you'll have many good times here. I have. In fact, it says how many good times I've had here right under my name :-).
 
research the symbols my friend.  if you can play with a clean consious after knowing their meaning and intent then that's between you and God.  suit yourself. but please repect those who do know their meaning and power and choose to avoid.
 
I'll say it again, because it REALLY doesn't seem to sink in.

Pentagrams/Pentacles.
Not.
Satanic.

Not in any way. Not in form. Not in intent. Not in function.

They represent the five elements - Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. It's been combined with a border, to form a consecrated area. Some peeps use it to keep bad things in, whilst others use it to keep them out. It's much like a gun - it is neither inherently good nor inherently evil by itself, it all comes down to the intent of the user.

Forgive me for coming off like that so much about this. I've just always had the belief that when we have Christ on our side, we need fear nothing demonic, end-of-file. Do you know of any place that has info on this?
 
This reminds me of a recent news article I read. A robot that Coca Cola made is being junked because it has what looks like swastikas on it's boobies. Yes, I said boobies.

But they aren't swastikas. They are buddhist symbols which resemble swastikas, and the robot is an exact replica of a robot from chinese cartoon show. But some Jew got in an uproar and they are removing them.

I won't even go into how the swastika was never meant to be bad...
 
Roman Eagle, I believe, too...swastika I forget what. Some Jewish term I think.

NOW look guys. Pentagrams/pentacles...who cares? Wiccans use them, games use them...NOW Eon let's look at the intent of Q3...from the maker of Doom comes Q3. Doom takes place in a hellish world, complete with cybernetic demons that you fight. ALL over the place are pentagrams with a hideous demon face sketched in each, or monster faces decorating the wall, along with your allies staked or shooting at you.

It's the use of the symbol...like swear words. It's how they're used that profanes them. Boob=idiot. Boob=breast. Sh-t=well, uh, cow waste. Sh-t=swear word...see how the times twist it?
 
I bet non-Christian would find it awkward to see Jesus' and crosses all over the levels Doom 4. I don't feel right playing or supporting game with symbols that are not Christian in origin but in fact represent nature and giving glory to satan?

this again is my view and not everyone shares it
 
At any rate, Cyberar, if you want, I'll browse pak0.pak and make a list of the texture filenames that you'll want to delete. Just let me know. All you have to do is open it with WinZip or WinRAR or whatever extraction program you use, and search by filename.
 
if it works anything like JO or SOF2 deleting the files in the pak themselves might render you unable to play the game online, then the best you could hope to do is make new pk3 files. In JO and SOF2, you make a new pk3 and put the files that you want to replace or add new ones under the same directory theyd be in the main pk3 files, except without actually replacing or adding them. Meh knows nothing of Q3 itself, but reinstalling is a pain, so.
 
The Q3A engine tends to be very forgiving when it comes to missing files. It will simply report a texture or sound as "missing" via a console entry, and go on playing the game, omitting the sound, or using a simple gray-with-white-gridlines default texture. I can see other games being unplayable though. Unreal engine is exactly the opposite. It MUST have EXACTLY what the level calls for, or it's not going anywhere, buddy!
 
In JO and SOF2 itll kick you off of a multiplayer server for having unpure pk3s, at least if the server is set to pure server
 
Max, since when was ignorance an opinion?

The early Catholic church MADE UP a lot of stuff that made indigenous religions appear to be Satanic. Now, you might well claim that I can't hold modern non-catholics even slightly accountable for that - and you'd be right. HOWEVER if you continue to propagate the Papist drivel that tries to portray people I know and care about in a negative light as "Demonic Satan worshippers" then expect me to tell you THE TRUTH.

Ultima... Actually, you're probably right about intent. Given the context the symbols were used in, I suspect you were right about why they were included and what they were supposed to represent. Just wanted to remind people that THE SYMBOLS themselves are not evil - just what evil/ignorant people associate them with.

Okay, I see how that could cause problems. Okay, I guess that's the solution I'd recommend if you just play botmatches. If you want to play online...can't help ya there, I'm afraid. I guess just look away from the petacles, and instead at the crosshairs, targets, and pretty flashing lights :-).
 
I really don't care who made it up. It is commonly accepted as a satanic symbol, and I like to avoid it if possible. Sorry if that offends you, but I never really had anything to do with any type of paganism, let alone satanism.
 
To me, it isn't so much the original meaning or where it came from. It's the idea. It's clear the developers are associating those symbols with demonic activity.

Take a cross. Depending on how it's used, it can give me the reminder that Jesus paid for my sins and rose alive from death. It can be used to ward off vampires. It can be used to burn people. I only believe in the use of the first one. Other uses become more and more offensive to me.
