Anyone for GvG?

so we doing GvG tonight? I can do from 8 o clock EST onwards, maybe... Monk is on USA at 10, I love that show, too bad Captain Stoddelmeier (spl?)'s wife wants divorce... he looked shaken up..

We had a few issues with the build you suggested. It seemed that 3 eles was not enough damage to do the trick. With max air magic damage, we were only spiking down to about 1/2 health. We got past the ghosts one time, and then got owned by them the second.

All in all, a pretty discouraging night.

Most of us wanted to try a new build that's sure to work... maybe Ranger Spike or IWAY.

Sorry, I should have posted this feedback sooner. Good summary AmericanJudkins.

The battle at the beginning of Heroes' Ascent is pretty much the same group as there was when it was at Tombs, just the terrain has changed. However, as was stated above, we just didn't seem to have the spike damage to take out the ghosts.

I think IWAY should be a pretty good one to try. From what I've heard it requires a lot less coordination and is a common PuG build. I don't know too much, but I believe this build uses about 5 W/R's. "I Will Avenge You!" gives regeneration (per dead ally) and faster attack speed. They use longbows to send pets in ahead. Hopefully an opponent will kill 1 or more of the pets to trigger IWAY, then the warriors run in, semi-invincible from IWAY regen. The team is usually filled out by monk(s) and necro(s) and sometimes a trapper.

Ranger spike would be another OK one for us to try because of all the rangers in the guild. The biggest trouble I see is that it would still require coordination to make the spike hit in sychronization. Not to say this is impossible, but I like the idea of a less communication intense build until we get our footing.

Another build that I (and one2dredd) would like to try is the ViM Trapper build. This is one we first saw in the Zaishen Challenge. Although traps are easy to interrupt, a group of 4-6 trappers all going at almost the same time would be difficult to interrupt. The idea of the build is that once the traps go off and cause conditions on the enemy, the R/W can use the warrior elite "Victory is Mine!". This shout provides healing AND energy for EACH condition in the area. With 1 trap causing bleeding and crippled, one causing blinded and the third causing burning, hopefully on multiple enemies, this is a VERY powerful recharge. If we round out the group with a couple monks for short term healing until the traps hit we should do well. We might even be able to make it look like we are a spike build to draw warriors in.

Any comments or suggestions? I will try to post some more detail on these builds later. I will need to look into IWAY and ranger spike a little closer before posting more detail than this.

Yeah I can do ViM or the Ranger Spike. Iway on the other hand unless I go as a Trapper would not be of great use. I am a R/W so I do not think it would work for me to Iway not sure though.

Maybe switch the Eles to an Earth spike group? Obsidian Flame w/ 16 Earth would do 100+ damage apiece... KD/AS from Warrior would do 85+56 @ 12 earth... 85+56+100x3= 431 hitting at once and ignoring armor, follow up w/ Stone Daggers for 6x25=150? Add a 4th spiker and drop a monk, doing at least 531 (insta-kill without buffs to HP)? I know it's a build that can work if done properly... but there's also a good reason so many people are doing IWAY and Ranger Spike.

That earth thing sounds good so long as we don't get interrupted, but even so they would need quite a bit of interrupters and that would be impractical.. anywho i have obsidian flame i just need to get stone daggers, and i have more than enough to buy that ;)

Yea O Flame is a killer skill!!! Right now as you know we have found Success Trapping!!!

I still like the idea of having multiple team builds available and getting practice with each. That way we can adapt depending on who is online. Also, it might be fun to scrimage against GC again and totally change builds before a second match to throw them off.

I agree completely. Everyone is having a lot of fun with the trapping right now (my wife Mirawyn included), but with such a massive over-emphasis on that build by everyone it is surely going to get nerfed. Its not exactly original either...so yea, I think its great for us to shoot for some more creative builds. I think it might be good to develop a repertoire of maybe three or four builds that we can develop some experience with and get to know well. We could post them in detail and interested PvP players would know exactly what kind of characters they needed in advance, as well as which skills to buy or cap. That would give us some variety without demanding too much flexibility from folks.

By the way, my wife mentioned that you guys came up against an opposing team last night that used a ranger-spike build with a necro aiding with his vampiric-whatever. Sounds to me like a pretty good way to spike, with quick, simultaneous ranger attacks aided by some kind of enchantment. I'll bet it would be a lot easier to coordinate than the air spike too.

However, I didn't feel as helpless against them as I did against that Obsidian Flame spike team the other night. One second, you're at full health, laying traps... the next you're dead with five -112s next to your corpse. Nothing that I know of besides bonds can prevent that... Maybe we should go in as mainly R/Mos and bond each other?

We did get a win last night we went in with 2 trappers and 3 Barrage Rangers and a Mesmer and took 2 NPCs

Did I mention that I got to do GvG with our guild before my husband did?

Pardon me while I gloat... :)

It was lots of fun, even if I died a lot. I'm going to try and get some of the better skills this weekend. I'm only up to Henge of Denravi/Sanctum Cay area, so my skill choices are still limited.

Thanks to everyone who was there last night. This is really a great bunch. And don't mention how late the GvG went, okay? Remember, my husband is on the site...

I would like to note that our Ranger trappers won us 3 times in a row one night and it was amazing(for the 2 I helped with)! even though they didnt end up trapping that much...
But I am up for GvG as a Fire Ele anytime I am on and will watch the forum, we should have some kind of announcement for when we are going to all get together....
And a side thought... can you have more then one Guild team playing at the same time? i mean (of course) playing in different battles against different teams, i know 2 teams cant play together.

last night's gvg was fun. but, geez.. those monks are annoying. they either run around in circles or heal themselves alot. atleast I take them out of the battle. really depends on timing when you hit them.

yeah i couldn't last night as you may know i logged out early because we were pulling up carpet and I was in the way ;) sorry bout that
