Well.. I decided to change my main from Shadowbill to Billinias.

I figure that Shadowbill is about topped out with gear.. so might as well gear up another character right? RIP Shadowbill :D

He may have 4 70's but isn't changing mains. Mordos did switch from a tank already geared up when he joined Redeemed to a needed hunter class and has only brought in his other 70s as alts when needed. Baax has been geared up as an alt, meaning second in line to be picked for a raid second in line to get gear. So it is entirely possible to gear up alts, patience is required. A good fruit of the spirit to practice.

seems selfish to change mains for loot:( Unless you are going from a DPS class to a healer or tank, then you are benefitting the guild to an extent.

well, I for sure don't mind bringing shadowbill if dps is needed. Just figure if I'm gonna have Billinias in a raid I would hate for him to miss out on gear because he isn't a main. But I for sure don't mind bringing shadowbill at any point :)

A thought I had as well...

I do have a desire to gear up other characters in this game, so it does get somewhat stale to play the same character over and over again when part of the fun for me is getting new gear. With that said I do understand that we have a lot of healers right now and that changing to my shaman does not benefit the rest of the guild. I did say "RIP Shadowbill" as a joke though. Just like other people in the guild are willing to play a different character when it is needed I am more than willing to do that as well. I would happily bring Shadowbill to every raid if that is what was needed. I really hate it that changing something so small as the title of my character would start a negative conversation. I guess my point is... I am more than willing to sacrifice in the small area of gearing up my shaman so that we can still enjoy raids. That is the reason we have been able to do so well as far as raids are concerned, because people in the guild have decided to sacrifice and play a character they may not want to play so that the rest of the group can raid. I do want to gear my shaman, but not at the expense of our raids. So I'll switch my main to Billinias, but as far as I'm concerned if I need to bring Shadowbill to DPS that is fine with me.

The only people you would be in competition for with gear drops would be people whose first main or only main is a shaman.

When I think it through, Billinias as an alt gets second crack at all the shammy gear that drops on the current raids. But all the current raids are on farm so for the most part, all the elder shammies have the gear so it would automatically, for the most part, be offered to alts. The only people, without you switching mains, who would get higher priority would be a main that hasn't been on many raids yet, or an elder main who has been looking for a specific drop for a long time. So you want to gear up a second main at the same time somebody is trying to gear up their first or been looking for a specific rare item drop.

I know you'd do the right thing and pass drops to those people, which again, puts you to second fiddle. So I am confused about your switching mains.

There have been a couple things recently that have made me feel like it might be a good idea to change my main, both coming out of running kara.. haha.

Firstly, as an alt if I am rolling on something for my main set (my resto set) I have to roll against mains who are rolling on something for their offset. So if there is a pally tank who rolls on a healing mace for an offset I have to roll against them even if it's my main set. Secondly, as an alt I am not guaranteed a spot in a kara run that I am already saved to if a main wants into that run. For instance, last night we did a continuation of a kara run that I was already saved to and I did not get an invite because I was an alt and other mains wanted to go. The reason I got in was because one of the other healers who wasn't saved to the run saw that I was saved to it and offered to give up his spot (which was awesome! :D, thanks thatfatkid!). Now, I don't mind stepping out of a new kara run if a newer player wants to go, but the worst is when I'm already saved to kara (like 3 bosses in) and don't get a chance to finish the run.

I have been playing Billinias a whole lot recently, and only really use shadowbill to kill horde or pick up slack when someone needs a DPS for something. I figured it wouldn't hurt anything for me to change Billinias to my alt if for nothing more than the fact that him being my main would make it easier for me to get into guild runs.

I dunno if you needed to change mains to gear up another character.

A lot of people did that when I played, just to make sure that nothing went to waste.

If I may be so bold as to propose a tweak to our rules:

I suggest that a character already saved to a dungeon should have priority to continue that dungeon (if he's there at the time of course). This would not mean a guarantee of a slot (thinking of cases like Illhoof where there are certain specific requirements to git'r'done), but would mean that a "latecomer" would not get to pull rank over someone who was there from Attumen on...

That can happen either way, you can get bumped out of a kara run if there are people that need the experience and gear more than you. If you seriously want to gear up a second char there is plenty of gear out there that is better than kara gear that doesn't require a raid to do

What if an experienced person volunteered to stay out to let "newbies" run attunemen, etc and then got back in for the later ones? there is always gonna be an issue or two with the way stuff happens, the majority of times everything works out great with no hard feelings

And I'm happy to say I have no hard feelings :).

Someone pointed this out to me, but I sorta made this sound like a loot issue. Where my primary concern is that I get "teh epic loots". I didn't mean for it to sound that way. I guess it just comes down to the fact that I'm bored of Shadowbill lol. I've really enjoyed playing my shaman and he is so much fun. It's a whole different way of playing and thats why I've been spending so much time on him. I'm not gonna lie.. I do want to gear him up, but I honestly really just enjoy playing him. And the reason I decided to make the switch was prompted by almost not making it into a run I was saved to, but I think it was bound to happen eventually just because I really do enjoy the shaman so much. But... I did speak incorrectly. I'm sorry that I made it sound like my only concern was getting him geared up.

It's a game. If all you want is the epic loots... why not?

^_^

Thats the only reason i played my warlock. Hate me now? j/k

Edit*

After thinking about it. I understand from a group prospective. But it's a game, and we are all christians. Seems like it is pretty selfish to hold someone hostage just for progression. IMO, let him play the alt. Eventually you'll progress. Although your aim should be focused on enjoying yourself and fellowship.

Individual progression Inkelis, thats what its about. But in that vein, depending on how raiding continues after tonight, I may be leaving Redeemed and joining up with another guild until the expansion. The guilds I have in mind are all just starting T6, right where I would like to be. We'll see.

I don't raid with Redeemed, so maybe i shouldn't chime in about raiding business anymore. But i will, this situation does seems to be a little heated. This is Redeemed... Not a Hardcore raiding guild. Most of us are christian adults, and should hold ourselves up as such.

As for individual progression... isn't this why we all started to play this game? at the very least to level up. Anyways, you all seem like you have your eye on your own individual progression. I mean, if you didn't, why would you care if he wanted to change his toon? But, when he does, it will hinder the whole raid.
