Alliance Event near the release of GW2

Ok, I have an idea for an Alliance Event. We will more than likely be moving several active players over to Guild Wars 2 when it comes out so I say we have a grand send off. In the end of GW1, and with in the 250yrs between GW1 and GW2, the Kurzick and Luxon alliances are conquered and Cantha is ruled under one banner.
First I suggest we have a unified cape contest. Every Guild can participate and in the end we all share the same cape for as long as leadership determines. I’m thinking a large prize for the winner as well. I personally would be willing to donate a boat load of Z Keys as I’m sure my fellow SoE buddies would.
Second we have a Boss Bash. We all head to the major end game boss missions (and some very difficult non-end game ones) and pwn them, kind of a grand state of closure.
Third we take on the Underworld and Fissure of Woe.
Finally to cap off the weekend/evening/whatever we have a message delivered from our Guild Leaders in one of the guild halls and then hold a Benevolence missions in Kamadan, Lion’s Arch, and Kaineng Center (or the Shing Monastery) and basically give some high end stuff to some low level player in Jesus name.

On a personal note I would love to see the folks doing the Bible Trivia Nights to do that during the event. I think it’s fun and it stirs good conversation in the Alliance. Also maybe see if we can’t make this into a home coming of sorts. I would like to see/meet some old players in the alliance seeming that I am a fairly new player compared to some (9months now). It would probably be a good idea to wait until we get closer to the release of Guild Wars 2 though. It may make the excitement of the even a bit higher.

So there you go. That’s my idea. Let me know what you think.

I like the idea, though it is kind of sad too. sad because I don't understand the whole changes involved with the GW2, and makes it sound like people are leaving GW1.

That's a great idea. I font have a problem with that. However, one thing to keep in mind, Anet will most certainly have a last day/weekend/week for celebration. So we migt be competeing with Anet in terms of partying. However that doesn't mean we can do it.

And Bonita, the way I stand now, after the first week of GW2 comming out and we get the old SoE/SOE are stable with whatever it is we decide to do, I don't plan on playing GW1 for a long time. The only way I see myself logged onto GW1 is for officer stuff or getting a title/weapon that'll go in my HoM for GW2 prizes.

To answer that a little more clearly:

Can I play my original Guild Wars character in Guild Wars 2?

Because Guild Wars 2 is a whole new game with different professions and races, new technology, and expanded gameplay, it would not be possible to directly use an original Guild Wars character.

However, your original Guild Wars character names will be reserved for your use in Guild Wars 2. In addition, Guild Wars 2 recognizes the accomplishments commemorated by your original Guild Wars characters in the Hall of Monuments and provides you with unique rewards to showcase those achievements.

Yeah, I was speaking a bit more from the players point of view not the characters, but regardless I would like it to be a celebration of experiences in GW1 as I'm sure Anet will be doing.

I also have a question. What is the average number of active players in each guild? I know in SoE we have about 6-9 usually between 8:00-11:00 (est) and longer on the weekend. I guess it would be fair to assume their will be more people on during holiday events...especially if Anet does a big celebration. Also who are the guild leaders of each guild? I've never really known. :)

I'm crossing my fingers for a unified guild roster between GW1 and GW2. Characters would just be able to access whatever games/campaigns they owned. Obviously a GW1 character wouldn't be able to access GW2 areas any more than a character who hasn't been to cantha yet can't go there. Sure, it's 250 years apart, but so what? It's a game. :) Besides, GW1 campaigns appear at different times.

Personally I think ANet should do this simply for peer pressure, haha.
"Hey, what're you guys up to?"
"Ohhh...we're just clearing this fantastically awesome new area filled with wonderful things. Why don't you come alo...oh, you can't. Too bad"

:: crosses fingers :: :cool:

Definitely up for a big event. In fact, I think it would be fun to still do GW1 events here and there...even after GW2 is out.

I think we have about the same online each evening in SOE, depending on the day and if there's an event going on.

There's an guild leader/officer's list over on the xfire forum in the Officer's Lounge: http://www.xfire.com/clans/soeguildwars/forums/

Elhanan wouldn't be able to see it unless he is an officer with the permissions. And it is slightly outdated. It might be worth it to get it back up to speed and post it publicly so everyone can see it. I'll see what I can do about that :)

It's hard for Bonita to see how the HoM carries over as she doesn't have EotN. So anyone without the HoM has no accomplishments to show, which is sad because she has beaten the campaigns many times over and has many accomplishments and titles.

Anyways looking forward to GW2 as well.

For some reason, I thought Prophet was an officer in SoE. :p

I'm looking forward to GW2 although it's going to be 2010/11 before it's out.

I don't understand why a GW fan wouldn't want to get GW2. It continues the storyline, albeit 250 years in the future.

Cost may be one factor, espeically for college students who have little money anyway. ;)

The thing I like best about GW is the community, the alliance. :D

Well Aleron, I don't want to speak for Ducky solely, but I know that he said he would not be getting GW2 and is thoroughly upset about it. Some reasons being that we have spent how many hours on GW1? With no way, aside from little bonuses in the HoM, to transfer our characters over. Really, the 3k hours you've spent on GW (according to your xfire tag) probably will only get you a hundred hours of bonuses in GW2. However, I think like you and am excited to keep it going. :)

I didn't consider the cost and can understand someone not getting GW because of that. Maybe the economy will still be in the tank when it comes out and they'll offer discounts? Well, one can hope! :D

Although I put a lot of hours into GW1, I'm still excited to get going with GW2. Even though it basically continues the storyline, it's a new game and is no different to me than going to a different MMO. I'll probably still play GW1 from time to time. In any case, People have already been drifting away from GW1. I see far fewer people online these days, except for events. My daughter is doing Sims 3 and doesn't play GW as often. I'll probably keep going as long as Nicholas is still around and there are no more titles to achieve. After all, it's going to take a long time for Ale Hound, Sweetness and Party Animal.

Personally...cost is one of the reasons I started playing guild wars. I'm cheap, er...a good steward, and games offer an unreal amount of value for me compared to other types of entertainment...it's why the game industry is doing so well in the recession. I understand that not everyone has $50 laying around, but would definitely encourage people of the value...even if it means getting something for Christmas.

Besides, I suspect quite strongly that games where you pay per month are specifically designed to hook you in/get you addicted. That's scary.

I think GW2 (and the lack of character carryover) is a great reality check for us all: No matter how much time we put into our characters, you get nothing for it but the experience. If the entertainment value isn't enough on its own, then don't waste another minute on GW, because it's not going to give anything more than that in the end.

It's a nice little illustration of life, eh? You can build up all kinds of titles, status, wealth, or possessions... You can go everywhere and do everything... But in the end it all goes away. Vanity.

Invest the time in the things that carry over to the new game that's coming.

In response to prophet's original post, I think those are splendid ideas to transition from gw1 to 2 (at least for those who will be transitioning). I would be more than happy to do something extra special for the Bible challenges, and perhaps throwing in a few extra activities. I think it would be appropriate to be most liberal in terms of giving away tons of free stuff and clearing out all the valuables in inventory, since I personally do not intend on using GW1 that often once the sequel is released.
As Aleron mentioned earlier, it will apparently be at least a year or so before GW2 is released, and I'm sure we'll have plenty of time to plan between now and then.

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." -Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
