Alliance chat

ya i know pastori is on "vacation" but if things keep turning for the worse, something needs to be done for alliance chat.

My solution..
We need alliance chat...SoE and SOE are one guild, and arenaet in their infinite wisdom hasn't figured out a way that we can get together easily. Now, remember I am a father of 6, so I sometimes have to run things a little more organized than a parent of 1. No Offense. If it was just SoE/SOE and 1 other guild (parent of 1) it would be easy. But in my opinion we have alot of different guilds (parent of 8) that are run differently. Those Guild Leaders, in order to remain in the alliance should be required to "attend" the forums, that way problems can be brought to their attention easily. As far as I know we only have SoE, SOE, and FoG on this forum. Maybe I am wrong. It cannot work that way, I promise. If these Guild Leaders won't do the forum thing, then they have no desire to "Belong" to the alliance anyhow. We don't need big numbers if they cause great conflict. I personally know that there is at least one Guild out there wher I need to get in touch with their leader. Yes, I can handle my own problems diplomatically, so no need to worry Bill :). Anyhow, We can have a thread stating the rules of the alliance here. But it does no good if these other guild leaders aren't here to read them, does it? I am positive that this "preventative maintenance" on the Alliance would end alot of conflicts quickly.
Another idea...each guild has an Ambassador, this frees up the Guild Leaders time also. This Ambassador is in charge of diplomacy with the other guilds, and handling problems with other guilds, the representative of the Guild Leader outside the guild so to speak. Also, is there an Assisstant GL or First Officer or something. When I ran a guild that is what I had...Ooops...did I say I ran one? ummm? nevermind!
(yes, I ran a guild, had some problems with the amount of hours I was working (alot), and since work is more important, and visiting my family was more important, I resigned and gave it to my First Officer. But the guild ran like clockwork. I was even a VP for the Alliance with 6 guilds. also I wanted to join a completely Christian Guild, not try and build one, I didn't have that kind of time on my hands. Though I ran it as a Christian Guild as far as rules went, it was always missing someone ;))

Just some thoughts, It really isn't that hard. People say...wow you raise too many kids...how do you do it. It's not hard I reply...It just takes alot of love, with a little organization, consistency, and alot of prayer :)
I hope this doesn't offend anyone, It is meant to be constructive. If it does bother you, please PM me and let me know. I realize it's not really my place to say anything here, I'm not an officer so I usually try to keep quiet in guild matters, But I have a number of friends in SOE and I don't want them to turn alliance chat off...that is wrong.

Thank you for listening, I am just trying to help, Bill is a GREAT guild leader and I don't want to lose him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whatever I can do to take the pressure off I am here. And I have alot of friends in SOE and want to be able to communicate with them as easy as possible.

Those sound like some great ideas. I agree that we need to get the other guilds on the forums too. Also, there was talk a while back about dividing the Guild Wars forum into a section of seperate forums, and I think if we're going to have a 10 guild alliance of more than 300 people, that needs to happen now.

Whatever we do, we need to do it quick and lay down some rules on how things are run. And if people choose not to obey them, they can either provide a good explanation why things shouldn't be that way, which would be taken into consideration and proper changes can be made (if necesssary), or leave.

As for your last comment, the same goes for me, too.

a bi-weekly meeting would be more practical, i would hate to see someone have to keep track on these forums :P

I wouldn't think so.
Meetings will not only take up a lot more time than reading and posting on a forum but a time that worked for everyone would have to be found and IMO that would be insaine to try and work out on a regular basses.

What about a small spam free zone just for the alliance where we have

1. Rules and things that need to be worked on

2. Request for help

3. Alliance valt of free give aways

4. WTS and WTB

I do agree that now is the time to lay a good foundation for communication within the Alliance so that things will run more smothly in the future. My mothers favorit sayings come to mind "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" and "need to nip it in the bud"

So basically, you're saying we set up a trade forum. Me likes.

And you're right about the finding-a-time issue, even with only 10 people, it's pretty tough.
then again, with the ambassador idea, I'd be a bit easier to work out a schedule because if the leader couldn't make it, the ambassador could always go in his stead.

It's what I had in my guild...
A spam-free place that covered...Alliance thread (Alliance Council members only), Officer thread (guild officers only) , WTS/WTB thread, need help thread, and most important a stickied-locked-Rules Thread. SPAM FREE.

We tried the meeting thing, but it is impossible, it never worked. You can never get everyone together for a meeting, life happens too fast for most.

I like the ideas of haveing threads for trade and no spam sections.

Also Ash you suggested some great ideas, having all the alliance members on the forums would clear things up and help keep rules straight. Only thing that would be trouble for me is keeping up with all the posts. I got on today and seems like i have read through pages to get caught up....im not saying thats a bad thing, its neat if you think about it.

EDIT: Also i meant to say, everyone in the game comes from different backrounds, cultures, even different countries (someone who GvG with us last night was from Korea), so what you say in alliance chat may not be offensive to you but to someone else it may be rude. Always remember that most of communication is non-verbal and when we are typing to one another you cant see the other persons expressions. Rant over.

We are working on the more threads issue.
Uh, I don't think it takes work to get more THREADS... :D

I like the multiple-forum idea. I've always thought the group member feature was underused. As far as I know, only Lydia's Place (whatever it is) actually uses it.

Here's some groups we could use:

Guild Wars (just for convenience)
Alliance officers (and a corresponding locked forum)
<insert Guild here> officer (and a locked forum for each guild's officers, with SoE and SOE combined, though this may be unnecessary)

Everything else could be open-access. There is no real reason to lock anything else, as far as I can see.

no not lock anything just get more threads like GW General and trade and PvP threads stuff like that. Although Lock threads for Leaders of the Alliance would be nice.

i would be more then happy to apply for the ambassador position if it happens.

I believe Talon requested the new boards already. I'll have to chat with hescominsoon to see what's up. I've been awaiting this for a long while.

Yeah, I sent Pastori a draft PM for new forums....

Dredd, I sent you the same one yesterday. Not sure what is going on, usually forum requests go pretty quick within a few days.

I didnt send in the request cause its not my place.

*edit* I'll contact HCS, left him a message on IM.

HCS has received no such request yet. Either it hasnt been sent in, or tek rejected it, or tek hasnt checked it yet.

Soon as HCS gets request, he said it will be done in under 24 hours
