Wow that was amazing! Thanks for the morning Devotional material. So incredible to see the Earth that way and so hard to believe that plane can do that.

SO I was thinking about what incredible design the Earth is as I watched this, then i heard the last comment in the video

That was only 13 miles up.. the Apollo astronauts saw it from 1/4 million miles away seeing the earth for what it really is... nothing more then a dust mote left over from the big bang"

James May is, as Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear once introduced him, a "blithering idiot". And he never ceases to disappoint in living up to that description.
 
That was indeed cool!

I wouldn't necessarily say that the Earth is nothing more than something left over from the big bang and insinuate that it is nothing special (I'm rather fond of it...) I do however think it needed some help to make life sustainable.

I don't understand that comment. Are you saying there is no Creator just a sustain-er?
 
Did you catch the pilot's quote at 7:23? After May says it is breathtaking - at a loss for words - just staggering - the pilot says, "I think the term you are looking for is 'God smacked,' aren't you?"

You can read it as: The Earth is more significant than simple a collection of dust and debris left over by some bang tens of billions years ago. =P It certainly needed help to get it where it is today.

I don't see why it is perceived as wrong to wonder how the Earth was made in another respect than just the Bible's. We have been given very advanced minds. We should use them :).

I do however think that the author of that quote could have used different language to convey their thoughts.

This confuses me a little as well. It sounds like you are insinuating that because I believe the Bible as Truth when it explains how the Earth was created that I am not using my advanced mind. Are you calling me stupid? :)
 
I do not mean to say that anyone has said it is wrong; however, I believe it is often perceived that doing so is wrong in accordance to commonly held beliefs - Christianity.

When thoughtful people who are truly capable of taking advantage of their mind's power choose to blindly accept what is fed to them with out giving the information a second thought or with out pondering about it on their own then that is when, I believe, someone forgoes their mind's use.

At one point or another, everyone has questioned aspects of their faith.

You know I'm not calling you stupid. :D

All in all the origin of the universe doesn't really matter to the average person. It doesn't effect any of the daily decisions you have to make and you could go through your life not even knowing and it wouldn't effect you in the slightest. You can't call it ignorance, just as you can't expect everyone to know how to program or design buildings that wont fall over.

Knowledge and wisdom is certainly power, but even the most knowledgeable/wise people still fail (look at solomon for some great examples).
 
I agree with Odale, never thought I would say that. I often ponder the creation of the univese and I consider evolutionary forces and big bang theories. It is within those pondering and considerations that I find strength in my Lord. It does not mean I believe that evolutionary forces created the universe and the world. But in doing so, I have come to realize that in the grandeur of the universe how insignificant the world seems and yet, we were created so lovingly and with purpose. We are seemingly infinitely insignificant and yet, the God that is greater then it all takes so much concern in us. It is just an awe inspiring consideration.

I was reminded of this video recently and had to repost!

I just find it fascinating that this is a 60-70 year old plane, probably still in use. It was way ahead of its time, for sure. Did you know the SR-71 was designed to be its predecessor and could fly twice as high? Yikes!

As for the whole creation vs. big bang stuff...

I accept that it is completely plausible within the realms of what Genesis teaches to say "God caused the big bang". The idea of a big bang does not fail due to some contradiction with the bible, although there are a few problems you'd have to overlook. The big bang theory simply fails because it's completely rediculous in a scientific sense, as most things in quantum physics are.

Consider this: Stephen Hawking recently stated that for the big bang to be true (which he is believes is a given), then multiple universes and histories must also be true. The universe that exists today must be a product of multiple converging universes and alternate histories. He also said that the big bang/creation might not have happened yet in our universe.

Crazy stuff? Yeah...it depends on false assumptions by thinking inside the box. But,to say that the big bang happened but we have a singular timeline is to say that you know his life's work better than he does. You can't have a little bit of both.
