Every Mystic who has been shown a Vision of Hell comes away shaking. Not very pleasant. Little 8 year old Jacinta -- the youngest Seer at Fatima, who was shown a Vision of Hell by Our Lady, afterward adopted such a hard regiment of Penance, to save the poor sinners, that it was too much for her frail little body and she died a Martyr to The Vision.[b said:Quote[/b] (Big J @ Oct. 06 2003,5:42)]Just curious to hear what everyone believes. Obviously, there isn't an atheist one, because atheists don't believe in hell.
There is an interesting description of hell presented in Philip Kramer's "My Brief Experience in Eternity and What I Saw" -- a Web Search away -- it shows a Hell where Satan and the demons torment their victims forever.
One would hope for annihilation of the Soul before Eternal Suffering. However, Christ dying so that we all might live was a Blessing and a Curse. With Immortality came Indestructability. God could not simply blow us away like a puff of smoke or a soap bubble -- if He did not like us, He would have to dispose of us.
Why is Hell so cruel? Well, God is not in charge of it. Satan is in charge. And Satan, the same as any Dictator, would fear Rebellion. The Worst Souls come to him and he will keep them down, for his own protection. The Proud come strutting into Hell thinking that it isn't so bad and that in two weeks they will own the place. Adolf Hitler, Stalin, Bill Gates. But Satan throws them into the Lake of Fire, just to show them who's Boss. "What we have here is a failure to communicate". After a few thousand years writhing in pain, they get the message.
However, Our Lady has taught Catholics a strange inexplicable Prayer, which goes like this "O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell and lead all Souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of they Mercy". I've spoken to many fellow Catholics about that and it seems to be including the Souls in Hell. "All" souls. "Most need of Mercy".
As Christ's Dispensation was to open the Doors of Heaven, maybe the Dispensation of Mary will to be to break the Chains of Hell. The reason we may hope is, look at the Scriptures --even when Christ has disagreed with His Mother, He has always obeyed Her. At twelve He said "I must be about my Father's Business", but Mary said "You will get your little Butt home!". He came home. At 30 She said "Jesus, turn the Water into Wine". Jesus grumbled "It is not yet my time", to needle Her no doubt for Her having shut down His show back when He was twelve, but without wasting a moment He went and turned the Water into Wine.
So perhaps the Day of Judgement will have its Surprises. But don't get too cocky -- there is still Purgatory, and Purgatory is no picnic. The only good thing about Purgatory is that it is not Forever. But no one is turned loose until they know how to behave acceptably... and that may take a while for some of us. Especially if you don't think you have a problem. While we are on the subject -- it is prayers of the Faithful outside of Purgatory that brings relief to them. One of the greatest faults of Protestantism is its abandonment of those in Purgatory. With no prayers said for them, Prots will rot in purgatory forever.
