A list of grievances against (and issues with) Vista

The same drm infestation that is in Vista..:) 7 is simply Vista 2.0.

One restriction i have hit repeatedly are the inability to select stereo mix to record sound from the computer. This is intentionally banned by vista/7. I have to drop in my old audigy card with hacked drivers to get wav recording to work again.

I have also posted about this as a paper about MS's drm and how it DOES NOT have to be there is also on my blog:

now then some things in htis paper need to be updated i'm sure..like hdcp support..bu the main focus of hte paper is still quite valid.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the links. :)

*edit*

Reading that second link - holy smokes. Why isn't this more widely reported?! Or am I just not paying attention?

And secondly, why in blazes would anyone who knew about this run Vista or Windows 7? o_O

I've disabled SuperFetch. I'll try to remember to post a follow-up in a day or two to report how much it helped.

remember...other things too, not jut super fetch

in order, i would do the following:

1.) superfetch
2.) sytem restore points
3.) windows search

I'll be curious about your results - looking forward to your update.
Disabling SuperFetch seems to have helped, though not as much as I had hoped.

My computer still sometimes bogs down when I have several applications open and I'm trying to type a forums post in Firefox or a story in OneNote. Just now, I had to wait ~3-5 seconds for my machine to catch up with what I was typing. Of course, I'm currently using 1.45 of my 2GB RAM, so that might be a contributing factor. Maybe if I plug in 3GB RAM instead of 2GB, performance would increase?

One other gripe I (think I) forgot to mention in my original post is that Flash video (YouTube, GameTrailers, other sites) will sporadically stutter in Firefox. I didn't have that problem on XP and it's really obnoxious. I have zero lag when I play fansubbed anime episodes (175-400MB .MKV files with subtitles), so I have no idea why much smaller and less complex Flash videos stutter.

I'm hesitant to disable system restore points on the off chance I would actually need them.

I have no problem with disabling Windows Search, though.

flash is not simple anymore. It's actually very complex under the hood and can do quite a bit. Modern flash animations require quite a bit of horsepower now to run. If youa re pusing your ram that hard yes increasing is going to help. I would hold off and wait for windows 7 at htis point though.

take a baseline image of where you are...do incrementals on YOUR schedule, then you can comfortably disable it. it may be a 15-20 min hassle if things go horribly wrong somewhere, but it's worth it imo

A few weeks ago you could have gotten it for $50 if you preordered it.

I missed out too... XD

I feel like an id10t for not checking win7 out enough before that pre-order deal ended. Had I know how sweet it is, I would have bought a ton of copies to resell to my clients. As well as scored a cheap few for myself.

gah bah!... hate it when I miss a good deal.

that pre-order deal is for UPGRADE copies only. Your clients most liekly would have had bad experiences at that point.

heh, i got win7 free via the msdnaa since my university has the contracts for it. i like my university and full 64 bit support and all drivers work oob
