A friend is adopting.

Durruck

Pirate!
My friend Tim and his wife Debbie tried for years to get pregnant, went thru all the testing, etc..and still couldn't conceive. So about 2 years ago, they decided on international adoption from Russia. After extensive holdups, expensive processes, and lots and lots of paperwork, they finally got their referral. The entire process will cost them about US$45,000 by the time it's done.

Tim & Debbie will be traveling to Russia next Saturday (27th) for the first of at least two trips. If all goes well, they'll be able to adopt the little boy that has been selected for them in another month or so.

Tim just found out yesterday that they got their referral, and he was elated. I haven't talked to Debbie yet, but Tim said she was really excited as well.

So here's why I'm posting. Firstly, praising the Lord for keeping Tim & Debbie sane through this whole process, and giving them the means to follow it through.

Secondly, I ask for your prayers for safe journey and as few holdups in this part of the process as possible, that they'll be able to bring their little boy home from Russia, and that God will guide Tim & Debbie to be good parents for him.

Thanks guys

my parents adopted from russia 2 years ago, they adopted an older boy, age 11.

i do warn you, EVERY russian child adopted in their group turned out to be horrible, that is all the older adopted kids. anything from threats to actually trying to kill the family. once the boys hit about 11 or 12 they think they are a man and try to rule over the household. also all the boys think that woman are below them and have to listen to them, no matter their age.

i will pray for the trip, and they adopt a good healthy son.

The little boy that they've been linked with is only 18 months, so hopefully he won't have too many of those things ingrained yet.

Tim was telling me that children that grow up in the orphanages get booted out on the streets around 11-12, depending on the region. The orphanages are so overpopulated that there just isn't space to keep them after that. A lot of the boys turn to gangs, girls to prostitution....just to survive.

In a situation like that, it's easier to see why the older boys have turned out the way they do - they've been learning all their lives to prepare to fend for themselves...in an overcrowded "home", living with girls that are about to become prostitutes... and all this with nobody to function as their parents...and completely without love. harsh.

being 18 months he houldnt have problems, the BIGGEST problem is lying, since they are actually taught to lie in their society. being young he wont know that yet.

hoping everything goes good. btw i think 1/100 orphans live past 30 in russia after getting kicked out of an orphanage. something like that

that's really sad :( Tim was telling me yesterday that a huge number of the orphans also suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome, since alcohol is so cheap and readily available. That's a tough thing to deal with.

Just an update: Tim & Debbie are back from Russia. They met their son-to-be and they're really excited. There's a lot of paperwork to be pushed around, plus governments closed for holidays approaching, so it could be next year before they hear anything else.

Thanks for your prayers for their safe visit, return, and guidance through the whole process. You guys rock.

russia has made talks about closing all adoptions to americans. they were talkign about it 2 years ago when my parents adopted, tim and debbie should have no problems simply because they have already made one trip, just stating things ive heard. be glad they got theriso soon, my mothers friend waited about 2+ years before she was even able to make her first trip to her son, the orphanage director never wanted her to come out O.o:eek:

Could we please keep this on topic with prayers and updates not information????? If you feel you need to add such please PM that info to the writer.

Now back on topic, I hope everything goes well in HIS timing and through HIS plan. I personally know the struggles of wanting to have a child and know also how God answers our prayers in HIS time.

Blessings and Hugs,"Angel"

I know you're just doing your job as a moderator, and I really do appreciate that - I know you've got a lot going on.

But on the other hand, information about Russia being in the process of trying to stop American adoption of their orphans is actually kinda related. This whole experience has been a blessing for Tim & Debbie, and just the fact that in spite of the government trying to stop what they are doing, God is finding a way to get them through the cracks. I think that's worthy of a little more praise!

They've actually been "in the system" for a few years now - they were put on hold for a really long time before they got their referral. They came back with pictures of their son, and even a little video clip that Tim shot. He's an amazing little boy, and it's been really awesome getting to "go for the ride" with them through this.

thats awesome, it almost attaches u to the child as much as them, being with them through most of the adoption and seeign videos from russia.

hope everything goes good, glad god has made his will apparent and helped them through the adoption:)

I'd just like to update the thread, as it's been a while since anything happened. Buuuuut....

Tim & Debbie got their call to go to Russia and go to court to finalize the adoption. They are currently in southern Siberia, which is (based on longitude) approximately 200 miles north of where we live. Oddly, they're having nicer weather than we are here. Anyway....

They went to court a week ago, and the judge approved the adoption. There's a waiting period to get all the paperwork finished in the higher government, and in a few days, they'll be able to get copies of the adoption paperwork, "apply" to the US Embassy, and prepare their son to become a US citizen. If everything goes without any snags, they'll be home in another 17 days.

I'm sure they both appreciate all the prayers along the way. Don't forget to add a praise to the next prayer, thanking God for clearing the way and preparing Tim & Debbie the way that He has.

Thank you all.
