8 man FoW

ursen

Officer SOE/LoE/Where's "here"?
Ok here is the proposal, an 8 man 1 class FoW clear. There has been some discussion on this on ts already, with the general consensus being Mesmer as a good start.
Rules:
1. No consumables
2. No secondary skills except hard rez.

Currently looking for information on cookie cutter builds for Mesmer, but no luck so far. But we have several good people with Mesmer expertise and we could throw good builds together if need be. This would be slower than our normal FoW clears to start with as we learn what works and what doesn't. New people, experienced people, it doesn't matter, we would be charting new territory for the Alliance and having a lot of fun in the process. I have been on FoW 8 man clears with monk and necro and it is a lot of fun, and a lot of learning. If this works we could try to form other classes too. Hey I would go as low as 4 people and 4 Gwens if need be, what y'all think?:)

Where be the heals?
Whatever is available for a Mesmer, although if it is a deal breaker for some I guess we could throw in a Me/Mo

Just out of curiosity, what's the goal? Do it just to say we did?
Get to know each other better, learn more about a class, and do it for just plain fun.

I'll come.....although you just ruined my favorite mesmer build by saying no 2nd profession.

I'm sure i could throw together something in Dom though.

BTW, just so everyone is aware, the link you provided in the initial post is wrong. pvx.wiki has moved to a new site. Wikia did not allow them to take the site name with them but the old pvx is no longer maintained and the builds posted there have been vandalized to death. Do not rely on it for any good info.

The new site is http://www.gwpvx.com/PvX_wiki

Only 2 mesmer heals are ether feast and drain enchantment. Ether feast would be the reliable one of the two, but each is responsible for keeping themselves alive.

8-man ritualist would be a spirit-spam fest, 3 glaivers, and some resto rits.

No aoe dps, but 8 paras should be able to do the same thing minus spirits.

8 monks = a lot of roj and more heals than you would ever need. Trouble if interrupts start coming or they start showing off their squishiness (barring a 600/smite pair for tanking)

Raven thank you time to clean up my book marks.
Reginator sounds like you can be a lot of planning help. Monk did have cookie cutter builds out there for 8 man and the tank was an ax monk. Axe monks, or nuns, are lots of fun and I could dust mine off for an event later.

I like unnecessary challenge. Sign me up.

My thoughts on the ideas presented so far:
I don't think monk is feasible. The only way to get the mileage out of RoJ that we'd need is to have a tank ball. Monk tank will simply not work at all - too much enchant strip.

Same goes for mesmers.

Rits seems viable.
We could roll every spirit in the book; big danger here is to make sure we keep summon spirits ready. There are a lot of DoT AoE spells that rip through spirits like butter.

EotN skills need no secondary, so we could have a few (two?) copies of technobabble (my favorite for fow) and You Are All Weaklings! handy.

Glaivers could spirit siphon to their hearts content and should be able to get a lot of energy.

Obviously we'd want some rit healers.

Sorry Ryan been in as a monk tank, worked fine, just gotta get used to the axe monk build and it's limitations. I can look up the web site we got our cookie cutter builds from. We cleared in about 2:15. Highlights one of the things about this type of event, learning to understand individual roles, and how to work the builds together. Monks do work, and work well. Learning class limitations is part of what this is all about. Now war builds would be tough, not enough healing, but probably doable by a stubborn, bull headed lot of bone heads (count me in if we ever do that 'un).

Monks will work just fine. I remember seeing a post someplace about a year ago from a guild that did single profession runs of The Deep and Urgoz. They had screens showing them completing both areas for all 8 professions and FoW is nowhere near as hard as those regions.

However they did allow use of the 2ndary profession and I'm not sure about the cons. Ursen, you said no cons. Does that include personal DP removing candy canes as well?
Oh never mind......<<adds Asuran Scan to bar>>

It's not about what is harder/easier for a balanced team...it's just about the amount of mesmer enchants with shatter. I guess the way I look at it is - only smite damage will work for monks, and the only way I see us getting smite damage to work is if we ball enemies with a supertank. Though it would be nice to use that holy damage on the undead...

I guess I'd just say - take a monk down to FoW and see if you can tank there.

One new suggestion, anyone up for trying this with dervish?

Fits the spirit of learning a new class, and very versatile now. :)

Ok Raven let's allow canes etc., just avoid con sets me thinks.

edit: may as well allow 2nd uses too, we did for monk. Which is how we got by with a tank monk.
