Here is a photo w/ caption from a 1954 Popular Mechanics. The caption really illustrates the leaps and bounds we have taken in technology. Try not to laugh too hard.

The picture has shrunk for some reason, making it difficult to read. Here is what the caption says:

"Scientists from the RAND Corporation have created this model to illustrate how a "home computer" could look like in the year 2004. However the needed technology will not be economically feasible for the average home. Also the scientists readily admit that the computer will require not yet invented technology to actually work, but 50 years from now scientific progess is expected to solve those problems. With teletype interface and the Fortran language, the computer will be easy to use."
 
I dunno...wasn't it Gates or someone who not so long ago (1984??) said something about computers never needing more than 164 K memory?
 
That is a fake picture btw, and photoshopped. It is actually the picture out of a submarine I think it was. The TV was photoshopped in there. :) Just a heads up for those of you who didn't know. I remember reading about that pic quite some time ago.
