If you subscribe to World of Warcraft in the US, be sure to check your mail.

"We are in the process of sending out e-mails to every U.S. subscriber to World of Warcraft. Each of these e-mails contains one 10-Day Guest Pass Key you can use to recruit a friend into the game. If your friend then becomes a paying subscriber to World of Warcraft, then you will receive a FREE 30-Day Credit to your World of Warcraft account. So be sure to check your inbox over the next couple of days for your Recruit-A-Friend e-mail!"

Sounds good. There's never a better time to spread the love.

So, uh...Anybody got a spare pass? ^^ I thought it might be fun to come visit for 10 days...

Blizzard always takes forever to email me anything, still haven't received free trial key yet, from what I hear you still need to get a physical copy of the game somehow if you want to play the trial. I may have my free trial that came with the collectors edition will have to look about.

i have mine. you have to have a friend use their copy of wow to install it on your computer then you use the trial code to activate and set up trial account. The trial account is a 10-day account but the person giving you the trial code gets a 30 day credit on their account after you actually subscribe.

I have 3 keys available so if you want one, let me know. I am waiting for confirmation from Blizzard regarding a distribution of a .zip containing the installation of WoW (not .iso or cd copies). I use this method on my boxes at home and can confirm it works just fine copies the files over to another box. For obvious reasons, I am only willing to provide this .zip if I get confirmation from Blizzard regarding my request.

I'll be praying over and considering whether or not to accept a 10-day guest pass. (I'm having enough trouble staying motivated in college right now.) When I reach a decision, I'll post again here and send an e-mail to Bowser first and Hawk second for a 10-day guest pass.

Hawk: Please let us know what you find out about acquiring WoW install files. I thought they would offer a client download via BitTorrent (as they used BitTorrent to distribute the alpha and beta), but apparently that's not the case.

Is there an expiration date on these 10-day guest passes?

I'd like to time my visit so it doesn't interfere with college. I finish fall classes December 7; my wife finishes December 16. If the 10-day guest pass will still be good by December 8, I figured I'd install it the morning after finals and join you all.

If the 10-day guest pass deal is a limited time offer and expires before December 8, I doubt I'll be able to play. Even though the 10 days are free, I don't need any more distractions this semester.

If there is no expiration date on the 10-day guest passes, then I'd like for someone to go ahead and e-mail me theirs. (I'm looking at you, Elihu.) I'll keep the e-mail stored until the time comes.

I saw this posted somewhere.
Blizzard Entertainment has provided FilePlanet with a special limited quantity 14-day free trial to the world's most popular massively multiplayer game, World of Warcraft. This trial includes 4 additional days over the standard 10-day trial available to non-subscribed users of FilePlanet. Fill out the form on the right to gain access to the world of Azeroth and play for 10 days plus 4 bonus days free of charge

I'm guessing they will also have it available for download, as they have in the past.

Hm. I was referring to the recent guest passes Blizzard sent by e-mail to current subscribers, not a FilePlanet promotion. Thanks for the info, though, Exo. ^^

I meant how long the passes were good before they could no longer be activated. :p

I posted that as an alternative, as far as I know it does not have an ending date so you could sign up and get a key from fileplanet then when your free time came you would be able to play. You just sign up for a free fileplanet account get the key and wait till your ready.

Aye, that's what I did. I have the key saved to a text file. I may e-mail Blizzard and/or FilePlanet to verify that the code will still be good in a month, but for now, it looks like I'm good to go.

EDIT: Problem: Activating the trial requires a credit card.

If no credit card is required to use a Guest Pass, I would much prefer snagging a Guest Pass.

Just sent this e-mail to Blizzard's billing department:
Greetings,

I have a few questions about World of Warcraft Guest Passes. I plan to start a 10-day trial using a Guest Pass when I finish my fall semester of classes on Dec. 8.

My questions:
  • If a friend sends me a Guest Pass code today, will it still be valid for activation on Dec. 8 or will it have expired by then?
  • If I enter a Guest Pass code, will I be required to enter credit card information?
  • During my 10 days in the game, will I be able to join a guild?
  • Is it legal to burn copies of my friend’s World of Warcraft install CDs or do I need to use the originals?
  • Will the trial client available from FilePlanet also work with a Guest Pass code?

Any and all help is much appreciated.
I'll post the answers if/when I receive them.
