can someone help me with 1.6..

What do i need to download. At the moment i have nothing installed in the way of half life.. What do i need to install and in what order..

I tried installing hl. then 1.1.1.0 upgrade and then steam full with cs but cs didnt work... i registered and when i installed it the second time using the same account steam didnt even try to upgrade the parts..

I sent this to rizz but it might help others out. You can get the full installs of all the games at Fileplant:

or you can get just the games you are interested by following the links under the "Related Links" on the page above. I was able to succesfully install steam and cs from the these install files versus only downloading the client and having it try to update itself.

This link contains both Steam and CS v1.6. It's around 317 MB, but it does everything for you. I downloaded this file in about 20 mins or so, and everything installed perfectly. I even played v1.6 on our server this morning to test it out.

If you have broadband and can download huge files such as this, I would suggest this link...and there were no wait times like at FilePlanet (I started out there, but looked around some more. I was 571st in line, and had to wait 2 hours just to download the file...)


Also, Que Pasa and Dead_Aim offered any help needed installing this stuff.
 
Do you need HL installed at all to make steam work?

Or should i just get the 1.6 steam thing?
 
Rizz, I had the "Platinum Edition", which had HL, Opposing Force, CS, etc. etc. All I needed was to download the steam with cs1.6 and it updated.

...

HOWEVER, now I'm up to create a Steam account, but it gives me the error 200: "failed to find master authentication server" !!!!!

anybody has any clues on how to solve this?

(**%#$&(*(&^%*$#^ I still hate steam...)
 
Good question, I think you need some instance of it on there so it can install "on top" of what you already have. When it's all said and done, you will not need the C:\Sierre\Counterstrike\...dir anymore.

As far as the error, I am not sure what the problem is, there. Sorry.
 
I gotta be honest...I have no clue what happens to the other HL/mods instances. I looked thru the Steam dir and couldn't really find any dir's related to CS itself.

Very odd. Very odd, indeed.

BTW, I *hate* the riot shield.

ok so with no directories related to CS itself within steam, where do my scripts go? Not to mention my 1337 new spray!

do you have any idea how long its been since I haven't used an autobuy script?

I'm like a deer in headlights here...
