Church Service

Officer SOE/LoE/Where's "here"?
I have a curiosity bump going again. We have a wide range of denominations and worship styles represented in CGA, and I was wondering what your favorite part of the service is. Is it communion? Praise and Worship? the message? Maybe the benediction because you get to eat lunch soon. Personally I like the Doxology. Easy to sing after all of these years, great song of Worship that never gets old. Combined with tithes and offerings it provides a lot to think about.

well I think it just depends on ur church like mine I enjoy all parts of it and were not like most churches we have had serveses that have lasted for 3 or 4 hrs

I like your style. :) My personal favorite is congregational reading, whatever shape it takes. Especially fond of when churches have readings from the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Gospels.

I don't go to a church but my favorite part of my Messianic excursion has got to be seeing how other Christians practice their faith. For example: I will probably never stop being intrigued by the thought of a large group getting together and singing as an act of worship.

Music and then sermon. I love worship songs (praise seems more self-focused I guess lyrics-wise?) and sermon because it helps to refocus on Christ.

It's an act that has been recorded since the Old Testament. I do it by myself (yes, I spontaneously break into song - oddly enough it usually ends up being a Christmas song), with my family, and with the Church. I think it's great that one of the things God desires for worship (singing) is actually fun to do. Sure beats pagan rituals of sacrificing your children or cutting yourself.

Exodus 15:1
Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord:
"I will sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea..."

Numbers 21:17
Then Israel sang this song:
"Spring up, O well! Sing about it,..."

Psalm 96:1
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.

Ephesians 5:19-20
speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Colossians 3:16
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

James 5:13
Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.

Psalm 100:2
Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

I'm probably a little off but:

The community.

I've never found a church that has strong enough "teaching" and so Ive kinda resigned myself to just pursuing that on my own time and asking the pastor questions as needed, which works since my pastor is on FB and pretty much anyone can walk into his house and watch golf or football with him whenever :)

music is cool, but I dont like most of the worship songs. To many "i"s "me"s "my" "mine" and not enough "God" in the songs that dont even sound like worship songs >.>

Teaching/sermon are my personal favorites.

I feel you, there are too many self focused worship songs today, not to mention the current trend in lyrics to be incredibly repetitious.
