I really hope this is my last new "help me pick out hardware" thread for a very, very long time.

Okay. So I'm looking to buy a monitor. I want a 22"-24" monitor with very low latency (chances are good I'll be playing fighting games like SSFIVAE on it at some point), great image quality, and a good price.

I don't have a budget in mind, but let's keep things reasonable. No $400 monitors.

Was looking at this monitor for $130 after rebate card and $20 promo code: ASUS VH236H Black 23" 2ms Full HD Widescreen LCD Monitor w/ Speakers 300 cd/m2 20000 :1 (ASCR)

Sure, it's a 2-year old monitor, but look at those reviews!

If you aren't looking to upgrade for a while but still want the best performance I would look into monitors with Display Port (naturally the video card will have to support it).

Pretty sure that's the fabled "Evo Monitor." My brother bought one to go with his new machine. I haven't been intensive with my viewing on it, but it seems rock solid to me and at a nice price point for what you're getting.

Are there any significant advantages to DisplayPort over HDMI or DVI? I had planned on just using a HDMI or DVI cable to connect my monitor to my PC.

DP seems to be the way it's going. So when DVI gets phased out, the next step will be DP. Also, it supports multi-monitor situations better than DVI, and a host of other things.

The video card I was considering has dual mini-DisplayPorts, so I'd be covered on the PC end. The challenge is finding a monitor with a DisplayPort for under $200, judging by my initial research.

3/5 of the BenQ monitors on Newegg are WAY out of my price range. Of the 2 remaining, one is out of stock and the other doesn't have a HDMI port.

But they do look like very nice monitors!

EDIT: I already have external speakers, so I wouldn't be using built-in speakers anyway.

I'm kind of surprised you aren't looking at Samsung monitors. When I was in the market for a new monitor a few years ago they manufactured the best panels.

i've nothing but issues with samsung monitors..that's why i now have an ibm and a gateway.. I bought my wife an LG and when we bought a new tv it was a pillips..

And I <3 it! Vibrant colors, clear and crisp text, and easy to install.

If I had known it would fit in my current desk (in the office, which I'll need to discard when I move my gaming space from the office to the bedroom) and look so very pretty, I probably would have bought it a long while ago. Then again, it's only been available on Newegg since July 2012.

I have had my 2 19" lcd samsungs hooked up to the desktop for 3 years now and haven't run into any issues to date. I think they are great. I actually just bought my first lcd tv yesterday and it is a samsung also.

Same for me. I am a Graphic Designer and when I built my computer I wanted to get monitors that would have good color and contrast. They are great for gaming too. I have the primary hooked up dvi and the secondary vga. No complaints coming from me.
