I don't want to start an argument, but I'm a fairly immature Christian and I need to know. Should we really be reading horror novels? The point typically seems to be fear. As Christians shouldn't we be focused on good things? I have similar feelings about crime games such as GTA and Just Cause. I'm not bashing things other people like or saying it's wrong. I honestly don't know what to think about it. Your insight is appreciated.
 
Amorrii you certainly have a good and valid point. The Bible does tell us to think on the good things, Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

It all depends...books and video games are a type of entertainment...here is how I see it... You can watch/read/play pretty much whatever you want, as long as it does not affect you negatively or cause you to sin... I read horror and thrillers, for the thrill and excitement of evil being brought to justice... Reading horror does not make me think about killing people, or make me want to kill people... Actively understanding fantasy vs reality is the key here...

Saying that, I will not play the GTA games, they make me feel bad, so therefore I do not play them... But games like Call of Duty, are fine...they don't make me feel bad, and they don't make me think about killing people or make me want to kill people... Call of Duty does not cause me to sin, so therefore, it is okay...

That's kinda the same thought path I used. I just wasn't sure if I was thinking correctly though. thanks and sorry. I didn't mean to sabotage your thread.
