Banned for "Abuse of the Economy"

I'd love to see the ban letter! Haha.

Also, it's probably because they think you're a bot/gold seller. You'll prolly need to call bliss to get it fixed.

This is what I think happened...

Last night someone in guild said "Wow, someone just gave me 100g for no reason!" I noticed he was standing right next to me, so I traded him a quarter million. Everyone had a good laugh, then he gave it back. But I bet trading that much cash for no items triggered some red flag.

I wonder if he got banned too? I can't remember his name... Was anyone on when it happened? I think he was a Pally...

What are some of the violations that Blizzard considers "exploitative activity?"
There are several primary types of exploitative activity that we look for. Each type can have broad, far-reaching sub-categories but all have the same ultimate effect: they are harmful to the World of Warcraft. The most common examples include-

Abuse of the Economy: We take action against accounts for Abuse of the Economy when one or more characters on the account are identified exchanging, or contributing to the exchange of, in-game property (items or gold) for "real-world" currency. This exchange process negatively impacts the World of Warcraft game environment by detracting from the value of the in-game economy. Please note that this category can include accounts we find to be "supplying" property for exchange to "real-world" currency. "Supplying" can be described as otherwise normal in-game play (such as gathering ore and herbs) and filtering these goods to a final account for the "real-world" currency exchange.

yea, large transfers of gold sets of alarm triggers for blizzard. Same reason there's a limited amount of gold you can have on a toon if you transfer servers.
 
Ouch! I guess Blizz couldn't come up with any plausible reason why someone would/could legitimately accumulate 250k+ gold ... then just trade it to someone else for nothing. As a joke.

Clearly, they have not met Tree...

Is there an appeals process? I would think that character references from the various geriatric toons we have on Stonemaul could convince them that this IS a joke.

If not, I will go bomb Blizz HQ with Rift 30-Day Trial postcards with "FREE TREE" scrawled on them...

A lot of people are at the gold cap. Some on multiple characters on the same server. I don't necessarily think that the mere trade would trigger something, otherwise they'd be catching gold buyers and sellers much more often methinks. Was there anyone else around that was a non guildie that knew what was happening that could have reported it? That would be pretty low, but I dont think the trade could have been the ONLY reason. Then again, how often is 250k gold traded from person to person haha. You would think that since it went back and forth one time each they would have realized nothing really happened, but I bet this "red flag" you speak of is an automated system. Computers are dumb, amirite?
