Dude, do you know how much Christmas hams cost? I might be able to swing a cornish hen, though. We'll see if the economy turns around before December...
Also, POC stands for point of contact. I add that because I had to look at the acronym for a few seconds until I figured out what it meant.
In short, the Assistant Forums Administrator should be able to manage everything for which the Forums Administrator is responsible for (after training, of course; I don't expect people to know this stuff already), but won't be expected to do so on a regular basis. Should the Forums Admin go out of town or take a virtual vacation, the Assistant Forums Admin will step in, all smooth and stylish, and ensure the vital tasks involved in forums operation are handled in a timely manner.
The Assistant Forums Admin will also be trained on how to upgrade the forums (don't worry; I did it today and it took me all of 8 minutes) and ensure security and emergency measures (i.e. backups) are solid. This is also scarier than it sounds: Our forums are already configured to run multiple backups daily.
Like most lists of roles and responsibilities, it sounds more intimidating than the reality. The time investment required is not overwhelming, but the tasks are essential and a timely response is crucial. Ever registered at a forum where you waited weeks to get an issue with your new account worked out? Did you ever bother logging back in after you got the all-clear e-mail a month later? Probably not. Again: Timely responses are crucial.
People go on vacation. They go through busy seasons. There's an "out of town" thread in the ToJ Staff Forum for exactly that reason. But I need someone dependable for this--and every--CGA staff position. Good intentions are fine, but follow-through is more important. I've lost track of the number of staff members in the last 12 years who meant well but ended up doing more harm than good by volunteering then not following through.
But enough of my rambling. If you're interested in the Assistant Forums Admin position, please send a PM to cgdoc519 and copy me on the PM. We'll be reviewing candidates as soon as possible.
