CONTEST!!!!!!!!

I'd like to get the fishing achievement for the guild done so we can get our hands on the new fish feast. This calls for a little over 6800 fish out of fishing pools.

:D

So in order to do this, we're going to have a contest. The top three people to send fish to me in the mail will receive a prize.
This will be a weekly event!
Da rulez!
1.These fish must come from a pool, and be fished by one of your toons in the guild.
2. You must mail them, uncooked, to Brootis, and once I tally them I will return them to you. What you do with them after that is all your choice.
3. Starts Sunday morning at 1201 am, and ending Saturday night at 1159pm SERVER TIME!
4. Prizes and winners will be announced the Sunday following.
5. Once we get this achievement we'll work on other guild achievements regarding mats and professions.

Is it cheating to start fishing before Sunday morning, or do you simply not want to receive any mails until then? It's hard to enforce the former, but I think the guild will respect the rules if you make it clear that your intent is to wait.

This week can be used to pad your bags for next weeks event. Seeing as this post is in the middle of the week. Send what you have starting Sunday

Cata pools or any pools?

Any pools work, I'd recommend Cata and Northrend for the quality of food and possible turtle mount drop.

Pools = schools, so you're knock out this achievement if you haven't already:

The Old Gnome and the SEA

Additionally, could do this achievement in Outland/BC simultaneously with helping with the guild achievement
Outland Angler

As noted above, fishing Northrend pools also gives you a chance at this:
Turtles All the WAy Down

And overall, you could make a grand traveling adventures of it looking for different pools that allow you to do:
The Oceanographer
and
The Limnologist
as most, if not all, fish do have pools (somewhere).

I don't think that junk nodes count as pools, but I could be wrong...those give you THIS achievement:
The Scavenger

That's 40 AP that just require "effort" and another 10 where there's luck.

you guys do realize that Brootis is going to lick all your fishies before he sends them back right? THEN YOUR FISH WITH STANK LIKE TANK o.O

I did have that thought, Lisa ... I'll have to know the prizes before I send any precious fishes to the Brootis!

More advice on this (although I'd love to hear advice from Salty Flame or any of the other Salties out there ... I've done a lot of fishing over the years but don't have any of the hardcore grinding achievements outside of the Dalaran fountain and the Oggrimar rare one):

Fishing without using the Fishingbuddy add-on is like driving without a steering wheel. Definitely, definitely get it. Just in general, having right-click-to-cast makes the process SOOO much better. But FB also helps out in particular with this contest and fishing in pools as there are toggles that amp up the sparklies in the pools so they're easier to see, and that prevents you from casting unless you're casting at a pool. Definitely look through all of the stuff on the add-on settings tab for this mod, there's a lot of goodness that isn't enabled by default.

The one mod I'd love to see but can't seem to find is something that screen-flashes or otherwise gives a large visual indicator for when a bobber bobs. I am ALWAYS multitasking when fishing, and typically gave game sound off. FB has options that makes the "bob" SOUND louder, but that doesn't do me any good. I'd like something that grabs my visual attention. Just by not paying attention, I probably lose 1 out of 5 fish which is kinda pathetic.

Math

Guild is currently at 3,321/10,000 on this one. So that's 6,679 catches to go.

I estimate that focused pool-fishing yields 50 catches per hour. Much lower than typical fishing because of the travel time between pools, and the possibility of a cast missing the pool. (also based on my experience last night, although then I was also messing around with Tivo and archaeology so I may be lowballing it). Anyhow, 6,679 divided by 50 = 143 hours of fishing. Make it an even 150. Ways we could do that are:

25 guildies go all out and spend about 6 hours fishing each next week
OR
20 guildies spend 6 hours and 30 guildies spend 1 hour each
OR
10 guildies spend 6 hours and 90 guildies spend 1 hour each (I think we only have 50-75 active players currently, so that would essentially mean 100% participation and then some. Our toon count may be 500+ but our account total is WAY less than that and many of those accounts aren't very active).

and so on. Bottom line: definitely doable, but definitely a TON of work. Will require some combination of a decent number of folks putting in a lot of fishing hours next week and/or all guildies spending at least an hour or so. It's textbook teamwork. Would be awesome to see us pull this off.
