APB: Beta (Super short review)

I believe All Points Bulletin released today...I played a few days of the beta (about a week ago), and this is my short and sweet review...

Would I recommend this game: No...

Monthly fee: No, however, you must purchase "action" time with real money...

The game was fun, for 2-3 hours...then it got VERY repetitive... If you are a "good" guy you pretty much sit around doing nothing until someone commits a crime...you try to resolve the crime...you get exp...rinse and repeat...

Also, there were no safeguards in place for good vs bad balance, and everyone and their brother play bad, out of over 20 people in an action area, there were only 2 good guys...and I was one of them... Made the game not fun at all when there is NO way to win...

The game lacks a LOT of content, and the pay for time action areas are the only place you will be spending your time anyways...for the 2-4 hours you play it before uninstalling it...

The one thing I will give it "props" for is the customization, character and vehicle customization was very well done...

My personal rating: 5/10

And I am being gracious on the fact it has potential...

Not surprised. The Grand Theft Auto Online" concept seems more like a crutch and a grab for venture capital than a legitimate sustainable virtual world. At least it's not another generic fantasy MMO, though.

I received a beta key, but ended up not even downloading the client. There are only so many hours in a day and so many great games to play. I'm glad to know my gut decision to skip APB was (probably) right.

Is it fair to decide whether or not a game will be good before playing it? Nope. But I'm just sharing my own thoughts. I'm not taking my opinion and trying to pass it off as a thorough, fair, and balanced review of the game (and obviously, Xion isn't either, since he attached the "Super short review" suffix to the thread title).

Yeah, and everyone around here should know I am never unbiased and balanced :p

I plan on doing more of these super short "reviews" for betas and other games I am getting access to, lucky for me, when I signed up for fileplanet many many years ago, even though I don't pay for it I get pay for features, so every beta they offer, I get access to, and I have time, so I figure these super short "reviews" might sightly help people decide on whether than want to try/play some of these games on release...

Upcoming Beta "reviews": Need for Speed World and Lego Universe...

Keep in mind that many betas require you to agree to a NDA (non-disclosure agreement) that forbids posting public reviews, screenshots, or videos of a beta build of the game. Others (StarCraft II, for example) don't.
