APPLE special conference in 8 minutes!

I thought about making some witty post about Apple zealots practicing their own religion where they worship Steve Jobs as a god and this being a Christian forum, but I didn't sleep well last night and I'm not feeling very sharp today.

But you all get the idea.

If Apple makes it, they'll tell you when, where, and how you can use the hardware. Which means I'm not interested.

NO i don't like apple because they are the AOL of hardware. They are actually WORSE than Microsoft in terms of what you can do with your device whether it is mobile, dekstop, tablet, music..etc etc etc. Read tek's post above..they are the ultimate in walled gardens..you do it apple's way or the highway. NO thanks..This is why i don't worship at St. JObs' feet(other than the fact he isn't really the messiah anymore than obama is this nation's savior).

As tek said above: If Apple makes it, they'll tell you when, where, and how you can use the hardware(and the software). Which means I'm not interested.

Ah well, at this point, I'm not interested in getting into an apple vs. microsoft fight. They always end up being pointless anyway. No one get persuaded that one or the other is better. I just started this thread to talk about the special event they were having, and thats all it should be. I like apple, and would like to talk to people who also like apple. If you wouldn't mind deleting your posts (bug and tek) I'll delete mine. For people who want to discuss the tablet in a non-mac vs pc way, here is the place to do it.

It appears to be trying to combine some of my iPhone, Kindle and Laptop together. But, not really in a way I find pleasing for some reason.

I am pretty sure this is not a direction I will go. But, then again, I am not the target audience for the device.

One thing looks certain, AT&T's network is about to take another HUGE hit.

I see it as an excellent non-feature. 3g is too expensive with low data caps(it's not truly unlimited) and speeds that average only higher than low grade dsl most times...some areas are faster but on average it's not any faster than 768k dsl. IF i was to get one i'd go for the wifi only.

Except these forums are neither pro-PC or pro-Apple, so we allow discussion of both sides.

I lock threads when tempers get out of hand, but I won't lock a thread just because someone says something I don't agree with. Maybe it's my background or education in journalism, but anything resembling prior restraint makes me cringe.

That being said, I recognize that the debate can escalate quickly in any Apple-related thread, so if it does start to get heated, I or another moderator will take the course of action we feel wisest or the course dictated by the Terms of Service.

In other words: Keep it civil and everything will be fine. :)

I don't intend to delete my post nor bug's for reasons posted above and because neither post violates the ToS.

There are pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses, advantages and disadvantages to every product. Forums users are free to discuss both sides as long as they abide by the ToS.

My wife and son both have iTouch's and they love them. I don't see us going to iPad's anytime soon. I suspect those who like to be on the cutting edge of anything released will be lining up at the stores for release. Where it is going is positive for technology, more integration with more mobility. That begs the question, have we as a society become slaves to gadgets?

Aye, that's my main concern. I'm largely indifferent to Apple products because I don't like being told what I can do with my hardware and I strongly dislike how Apple fosters a narcissistic and arrogant user culture through their marketing and advertising.

But I'm (unfortunately) stuck with an AT&T contract and I can't switch to another wireless service provider without a hefty cancellation fee. Service is already rated the worst in the nation and now they're tacking on another Apple-exclusive product?

/facepalm

The upside to all this is that it will spur innovation from other companies. Just as the iPhone lacks some basic features (MMS, copy/paste, user-removable battery) that other companies add to their models, other hardware manufacturers are now motivated to develop a tablet product with features like multitasking and Flash support.

See? There's an upside to this announcement for everyone!

yeah i am actually looking at getting an adroid based phone when my contract expires in 8 months.

My dad has one...it is by far the coolest phone in the world! If I had the money and a job I would totally get one!

Aye, I was looking at Verizon's Droid, but it's far too expensive right now. I could see how it would easily be justifiable as a business expense for some, though.

When I'm employed again and after my contract with AT&T expires, I plan to switch providers and pick up an Android phone.

Wow, a device with a 1GHz processor, 16GB hard drive, no multitasking, no flash, no OSX, no firefox, no anything outside of the app store, a touch qwerty keyboard, doesn't fit in my pocket, can't make a phone call, has no video camera, has a super hi-res 1024x768 screen, AND I can add it to AT&T's awesome network if I pay extra money and a monthly plan? Where do I sign up?

PS: Not very excited about the ebook options...Steve told me that people don't read anymore :)

Edit: Not trying to start a flame war, just being sarcastic, I suppose. I guess what I really question is how this device beats an iPhone, Touch, or something like a EEE PC in any way.

*SNIF SNIF* I and my church, and many churches around the world have officially been called arrogant by tek *SNIF SNIF*

On a further note, the only thing this thing really looks practical for, is for a hand held gaming device.
