Windows 7 RC...

Well, the RC is out, and doesn't expire until June 1, 2010, really March 1st, 2010, but that is beside the point, I beta tested it a bit, and I am about to reformat my laptop for it's 6 month reformat (I do this to all my computers) and I was wondering if Windows 7 RC is safe to fully use for everything I normally would, such as gaming and online banking...anyone tested it enough to know?

I dual boot windows vista ultimate 32bit and windows 7 64bit and the only reason I still use the vista is that I play 9dragons sometimes, and I haven't quite got it to start in windows 7. Other then that I use 7 over vista full time.

I would personally recommend against installing a beta Windows operating system.

but this is past beta now correct?

I have quite a few tech friends using the new Win7 RC and they all say it is great. Plays games fantastic and lots of improvements on Vista.

Does any version of Windows REALLY ever get past the beta stage? ;)

Personally, I'm still using XP when I use Windows. Otherwise I've pretty much switched to a mac at home. I also play around with Linux from time to time. I have a strong dislike for Vista. Hopefully Windows 7 is better.

Because it's a beta closed source operating system.

Windows operating systems are buggy enough at retail release; they're even more buggy before that.

As a general rule, I don't upgrade to the next Windows OS until there's at least one service pack. I would have happily continued using XP if my replacement didn't come with Vista installed. (Thanks to Dell not cramming as much adware and trialware onto the base install, it would have been more hassle to format and install XP than it would have been worth.)

Of course, I also have a load of programs I re-install every time I reformat. When I wipe and reload, it takes at least 2 days of installing and configuring to get me to the point where I can use the computer on a daily basis.

If that's not the case for you and switching operating systems is easier AND if you can afford the downtime to wipe and reload, then hey, go for it.

my business notebook has been running 7beta since day one with no issues(it runs better than vista does) i'm going to be putting the rc on my laptop..keep in mind though this is beta and won't get the same update support a ful version gets..so i would not reccomend runing this as a production mahcine if you can...howe3ver for testing purposed yes it's fine.

I'm thinking about reinstalling my windows partition and upgrading to Windows 7. Personally I run Linux as my primary and only use Windows to game and I would like to upgrade to Vista or 7 to get the DX support. The only problem is from what I've read 7 seems better streamlined than Vista and that's all that matters to be as it's strictly for gaming.

I am a M$ hater, please keep this in mind, and I see Windows 7 being one of the best OS's I have seen in a long time...it puts even XP to shame... Runs smooth, decent features, and uses less resources than XP!!! PLUS it installs in 20-40 mins, and ON MY LAPTOP, which required me to manually install many drivers before I could use everything, Win7 only had my install 1 driver, and it was automatic and I could use everything from my card reader to my wireless card, WITHOUT a download!!!

less resources than xp? windows 7 still requires 2 gigs of ram to run effectively and at bootup with nothing installed but a'v it's chewing a gig. That's more than double what the same config on the same hardware would run on xp.

I have 2GBs of RAM on my laptop and Win7 is currently using 280MBs...and starting up in around 40 seconds... And it runs better on my laptop than XP or Vista...faster, smoother, and much more enjoyable... Which we all know how limiting laptops are, I am very temped to put it on my much better spec'ed desktop to see what it can do with 64 bit...hehe... :)

EDIT: The beta version used a bit more RAM than the RC version, it seems like they fixed something...hehe...

I'll probably be re-installing windows 7 to the RC this weekend.. not enough time right now to get it done.
