Are you going to watch the Academy Awards?

I ask because saying it from my friends list is too much a waste.

I plan to watch it soon. The interviews are on now and the red carpet starts 5PM Pacific Time. (Here anyways)

Anyone? No one? Hehehe... :D

sorry to bug out on our chat corp, my brother called and I'm now at his house trying to fix another computer.

Why would I want to watch the glorification and worshipping of a culture that represents all of what is wrong with this world?

Didn't watch it.

Didn't plan to watch it. (It was last night, right?)

Will probably never watch it.

I just ignore the red carpet nonsense and check online for a list of nominees and winners the next day--when I think to do that.

I'm currently upset with the media, and prefer to give it no nods of encouragement. Why? Because of Eli Stone, that's why. And don't even get me started on Firefly.

I do not like how the public idolizes people who do nothing more than imitate someone or something else, real or fiction.

I do not like how the media constantly peers into the stars' lives, nit picking at every imperfection. This nit picking perpetuates unrealistic and umimportant goals and attributes (perfect bodies, etc).

I disagree with how the world looks to "Hollywood" for how it should look, act, and what it's socioeconomic status (think Desperate Housewives) should be. Thus I do not like how it continually perpetuates stereotyping (inadvertently or otherwise).

...

And I have better things to waste my time on... like my level 39 White Lion :D.

In short... I missed it.

This might be a topic for another thread, but it really seems like there is alot of animosity toward everyone and jaded people posting.

Sure i dont agree with everything hollywood and the media do, but this level of animosity seems almost too much, especially for a christian community

I don't watch the Academy Awards for one simple reason: It doesn't interest me.

I know I enjoyed Movie A. Whether it wins Picture of the Year is no big deal to me. It doesn't cause me to like it more if it wins or like it less if it doesn't. So watching the awards is inconsequential to me. And that is the truth of any awards show. It just isn't my cup of tea.

I don't think modern movies hold a candle to movies of old. Even back then (but especially now) I don't think the concept of awarding a movie an award ever year is sound. Ever consider that there may simply be no good movies a year? Yet the award is still given out anyway.

Here are some of the reasons I don't like the academy awards:

I saw the cover of a Parade today and it read who is the best Academy award winner of all time surrounded by winners. All of them were modern actors. Excuse me???

Acceptance speeches often go into vapid areas or subjects I don't agree with.

I've seen one movie listed as an academy award nominee BEFORE it was released. Exactly how can this be accurate? It's like going to a certain game review site, looking at the highest rated games of all time and occasionally seeing a game that hasn't been released -_- Why are people so stupid that they will actually say something is great before playing/seeing it. It's because the academy awards have long become a marketing bonanza.

I think the academy awards swings left with some of their arty liberal nominations Jesus Camp, An Inconvenient Truth etc.

Even ignoring all the above I have never been prone to the need to idolize actors, presidents and royalty. Following their lives through vapid shows like Entertainment Tonight/Inside Edition and watching Paris's latest escapade on the News. Excuse me why is Paris Hilton news anyway? Why do I care if a spoiled rich girl gets arrested any more than the guy down the street WHY???. I think a lot of people like to live through these people but I couldn't care less about all the gossip. It reminds me of the motivation behind asking for a king when you have a judge but I digress.

...And having seen The Dark Knight I do think Heath Ledgers performance was good but it isn't worth all the attention given to it.

Wow...okay.

I actually watched half of it, the singing and dancing totally blew me off.

Though, my Mom knew, Man on Wire would win an Academy Award.

Philippe Petit, would be the only man to ever gone at the top of the Twin Towers and dance between them on a wire.

Wikipedia said:
On August 7, 1974, shortly after 7:15 a.m., Petit stepped off the South Tower and onto his 3/4" 6×19 IWRC steel cable. The 24-year-old Petit made eight crossings between the mostly-finished towers, a quarter mile above the sidewalks of Manhattan, in an event that lasted about 45 minutes. During that time, in addition to walking, he sat on the wire, gave knee salute and, while lying on the wire, dialogued with a gull circling above his head.

I actually brought the DVD, many hours before the Academy Awards was shown. Its a very good and true documentary.

I had some snarky answers to this and other questions, but decided to clip the remainder of my post in order to prevent the spreading of negativity.

Ooooh thats one on me. I do still get the feeling the Academy Awards are about marketing, arty leftness and mutual kissing up for some reason.

I do know the game site I saw does have unfinished games in it's overall most popular games.

Ah I feel for you Tek the perils of being the President and not being able to be snarky ;p.

Heaven forbid he show up on E! or Entertainment Tonight...

Coming up next on "You have no life so watch theirs"...
Tek's Snarky Blowup,
The Torrid Ember breakup over the Wii remote,
and the secret Japanese pocky addiction that caused his downfall.

Yeesh if you have no life why bother watching these shows when you can hang out in forums like these and hobnob with actual celebrities like Tek! O,o :p

It is the cross I bear. :)

There have been more than a few occasions when I've held my tongue because of my position as President.

He just needs to create a secret alternate account under another name so he can release his snarkyness... wait I've never seen Vibrokatana and Tek in the same place hmmmmmmm...
