We've spent time looking at how the recent Medic release went, and have rolled feedback from that release into the new item designs for the Pyro and into the design of the achievements required to unlock those items. One item, shown here in concept form, will be the Axtinguisher. Although it does about half of normal damage to standard run-of-the-mill non-burning enemies, once you light someone on fire the Axtinguisher will guarantee a critical hit.

Along with all of the new content, we're also going to be making some significant changes to the Pyro class for everyone, regardless of whether they have unlocked any new items.

Shouldn't you say it sounds "hot" since it's the pyro :p

Hmmm it makes me wonder if an actual extinguisher (not an axe) to put people on fire out would be useful to the pyro...

Ok, personally, i did not care much for the medic class. This is because i'm a terrible medic (but that is beside the point).
BUT...
I LOVE THE PYRO CLASS. If they are going to make more achievements and weapons for the pyro class *SMILE*, I will be really excited.

Any word on a release date?
 
WoW...what's with the releasing of achievements for the classes I don't normally play? Oh well, I guess I should loook at the positive...that Valve is keeping the pace moving right along for the other classes. Still, the Axetinguisher sounds decent. Really want to see the other weapons now though. *Can we get a fireball technique?*

I'm cautiously optimistic about the changes to the Pyro class. Pyro is my second favorite class, so I'm somewhat concerned that Valve will nerf the class and take away the fun of singing, "BURN BABY BURN" while I engulf half the opposing team in tight corridors.

For myself I say "TOASTY!" in that Mortal Kombat kind of way :p

My first thought was the Axtinguisher might be overpowered but then I realized the second anyone catches fire they are usually running for the hills immediately so it will be difficult to melee them. I never touch the axe myself so it should give more reason to.

all I want is sniper achievements, but they will probably be one of the last ones to get it.

T_T At least you get a movie... I want spy achivements! :p

I think I will enjoy that one!

If you want to be a successful Pyro you need to be up close and personal anyway... mele range!
 
I really like Valve is keeping the game alive like this. Really fantastic post-release support.

I wonder how that transfers for them financially though? I mean, they don't charge a subscription model so additional content doesn't do much (financially speaking) for existing players, and I wonder if this new content is winning new players to the game.
