Spring 2008 anime

not sure anyone could call samurai champloo a "high-caliber" anime....... and spirited away wasnt all that great . the other movies i havent seen so yeah. and outlaw star did leave an impact, and your allowing for subjective individual value to define a standard which doesnt really work....

To each his own.

I thought the art, the characters, and the story (more specifically, the story in the final three episodes) were all fantastic. The series is definitely not for children, but it is a great example of what skilled artists and writers can create with animation.

and spirited away wasnt all that great .
Spirited Away was confusing for me until Elihu's wife (who was raised in Japan) explained some of the folklore referenced in the film. After I understood more of the context, I enjoyed the film much more.

And it couldn't be that bad if it won the 2001 Academy Award and an Oscar.

Again, to each his own.

I have fond memories of Outlaw Star because (1) I watched it with two of my best friends and (2) it was a genuinely fun series.

But I still don't recall any moments that really surprised or amazed me, like episode 5 of Mai HiME, episode 1 of Read or Die TV, or episode 26 of Dennou Coil.

and your allowing for subjective individual value to define a standard which doesnt really work....
I wasn't intending to define a universal standard or a dictionary definition. You asked how I would define high caliber anime and I answered the question.

you'll probably like Soul Eater a whole lot more than Bus Gamer. I know I did.
I watched maybe 30 seconds of the episode and I already like it more than Bus Gamer. I'll probably watch the first episode and download the second in a few days.

Download VLC and try to load the video file using that.

If that doesn't work: When you load the file, be sure to right-click somewhere on the video display, select Subtitles, then select English (or whatever non-default option is available).

Mplayer plays just about anything. I stopped using VLC awhile ago because it is rather slow.

Never had a problem with VLC...

And about Samurai Champloo...I just finished it, and I was kinda disappointed...and fell in love with the characters and at the end
they just went separate ways,
that really upset me... :( I felt like something was missing...but I am not sure what...but then again, I haven't liked very many anime endings...

actually i was using VLC btu i didt know about activating the subtitles.
MAcross Frontier,
Not sure i like it, the animation style is really ugly to me, but im curious to see how they all come together and how the rest of the storyline works out.

Allison and Lydia,
My first impression was it reminded me of last exile alot, but seems nifty enough
