90 per cent of Nintendo DS users are playing pirated games

I kept thinking this was a parody, but my friend assured me that it's not.
One Nintendo DS user from Lanarkshire told The Sunday Post he has amassed more than 50 DS games free, which would have cost him £15-£30 each, thanks to the R4 chip.
But John Hillier points out such actions are seriously short-changing the games industry.
"The implications are massive. In America it’s thought 90 per cent of Nintendo DS users are playing pirated games because of R4s."

Maybe John Hillier should apply to work at Fox News?

Between Fox News, Cooper Lawrence, and Kevin McCullough, I'm starting to wonder who's handling the fact checking for so-called journalism outlets now. Drunk, chain-smoking monkeys chained to typewriters?

It's been one of the most embarrassing years for journalists ever, and January isn't even over yet.

No, the question should be, where can I apply for their job?

At least I know I could make up information that's slightly more accurate... Or at least sounds more accurate.:D

i'm a DS user, along with my neice and nephew, and we don't have any pirated games... but, we've only had them for less than a month and we each have 1 game anyway xD

Well, that's about what you can expect from Fixed News, Tek. It's more like a Tabloid than anything else...

I known someone that played the pirated versions on the PC with crappy graphics, lag, etc, but I don't feel like paying 70+ bucks to get the pirate cartridge and take the time to download everything.

The R4 is not just a mechanism for piracy. It's also a method of playing homebrew games and applications on the DS.

There's a thriving DS homebrew development community that's been overshadowed by the piracy scare concocted by mainstream media. Piracy is not nearly the threat to Nintendo that articles make it out to be; the Wii and DS both rake in the cash for Nintendo. There's a reason why people joke that the DS and Wii both print money.

I'm not advocating piracy in the least. I just think it's irresponsible of journalists who allegedly research their article topics to completely ignore the homebrew development community.

Okay, so I have to cut this John Hillier guy some slack:
Apparently the outrageous claim from the ELSPA's Intellectual Property Crime Unit manager, John Hillier, that 90% of North American DS owners are pirates, was outrageous to him as well. A spokesperson for the organization told GamesIndustry.biz that the quote attributed to him in the incendiary Sunday Post article was inaccurate or even fabricated.

Quote-checking and fact-checking FTW.

And somehow, I still can't find work as an Editor.
