Okay, so before anyone accuses me of repeating something from a old thread, I searched the site for anything pertaining to this addon, and found nothing in our forums...anyways...

I have recently discovered a popular addon called GroupCalendar... Some of you may know it, others may not, and my question is, WHY AREN'T WE USING IT??? It is a wonderful addon that could easily maintain our raids, and even help many people out. Ex. I want to run...oh ZF, however, I know posting on the forums won't help because many people don't use the forums, and I know asking in guild chat won't help at the time because most people aren't just sitting around waiting for someone to say, wanna run a lowbie through an instance??? so...I know that at a future date/time I would have the time to run it, so I post on the GroupCalendar that at Day 00:00am I would like to run ZF, others would get on, check it, and say, HEY, I could be on at that time, I need that too... So I really do not see why not to use it...

...And for you Ace only users out there... this addon is hosted by Curse.com, many of you seem not to like curse.com, however did you know curse has ALWAYS hosted the Ace addons, they are on cruses servers, so curse has it so that you can now use your Ace addons with everything you can do with curse...so why not get away from that ad infected WAU, and get the curse installer...

You have my opinion, and I hope at least some take my ideas seriously...
 
I have it. I think the reason is that sense the forums are often observed by guild member then it makes it easier. Also, I believe that the forum master people would rather post on here because there are sign ups and whatnot. (Love the mod though =D)

I agree. However, I really think they could and should use both. The clock that is added to your minimap flashes when something new is put on Group Calendar, so anyone who logs on would know that something is up. They click on the clock, and see the new event scheduled. Very easy to see and use.
 
Its a nice mod, but I am one of those people that sit around in guild chat and wait for someone to say "anyone wanna run...?" hehe. I have stopped scheduling my life around WoW and started just popping on whenever I have time to kill:)

Wow...stop scheduling life around WoW...honestly never really thought of that...however, like I have said before, WoW is much like TV for me compared to others, because I do not have TV, so instead of being home for my favorite show, I get home for my raid/run...but you make a very good point Where... :)
 
I dont schedule life around TV either, thats what DVR is for:)

I didnt mean to diss anyone with that statement though, its just my life has gotten so hectic this last year that I have had to scale way back on my computer time. I still get some time here and there to spam the forums but I havent been able to devote the 2+hrs at a time WoW takes to most things heh. I have just recently even gotten back into being able to hop on semi regularly at night with enough time to run an instance or so. We used to schedule around raid times, getting off work, getting dinner made, helping our son with his homework, making sure everything was ready by 6st:P Just cant do it right now:(

Curse has been responsible for hundreds of trojan/keylogger downloads. Many many people (even some in guild!) got their characters stripped because of Curse downloads. I can't find a single case of AceUpdater giving someone a fake ace mod that was a keylogger. I would trust the devs at WowAce way before I would trust Curse. Curse is the main source on the internet of WoW accounts being hacked/sharded.

Curse is very popular so the keyloggers are often removed very quickly but still you have to be real careful.

Also, where do you see ads in AceUpdater? I was using it from alpha till like 1.7 and I never saw an ad. Is that something they added in the latest release?
 
yeah they have a banner ad in the bottom now, a small inconvenience im willing to live with for the ease of use:)
 
I am against it.

We have tried it before, many times, and all those times the experiment has failed.


Gilga summed it up pretty well in the poll thread, but here it is again!
  • Its a mod! So it is bound to have flaws.
  • Lag! An additional process slowing the connection.
  • Not enough people will have it. (We still have people without BossMods and/or Omen... can you imagine how hard it would be to get people to DL a luxury mod?)
  • PHP just works better as signups and is more reliable and accessible.
On a personal note, the reason I don't like it is because you will be eliminating the forums. The forum is an indispensable tool for the guild. Also, people can wander to other games CGA and ToJ offer. Not to mention, the forums are much better for communication than chat. Why? You don't have to be present for a conversation.

I did some research, and WoWAce, and the updater, are released BY curse (Not just hosted, MADE AND RELEASED)...so what you just said, is that WoWAce is a problem also...
 
curse doesnt intentionally release key loggers, its just such a big site its easier to slip one by them and not catch it until its too late, Im not sure if their auto-updater has more security built in or not but curse has been known to have key loggers, sazul got hacked pre-BC by an addon off curse. That said I still use curse, just DL the mods that have been DLed thousands of times before hehe

Hmm that is interesting...Do you have a source to prove this? I would be curious because as far as I can tell http://www.wowace.com/ is where everything is hosted. There are over 150 developers working in the Ace2 community and they built the updater after checkout via SVN became a beast to handle. The only connection between them and Curse is that curse became such a popular site many of their mods were mirrored there. I have followed wowace for years and I have never seen anything on their site mentioning a connection with curse owners.

Personally, ever since curse attempted and failed to make a web 2.0 site I think its a pain in the butt to get mods from them. They really ruined what was an excellent site at one time.

The reason Ace mods are so awesome is that the developer community works together and uses shared libraries. This helps ensure that the mods are lightweight and well done as there is much input from many other developers.

group callender is a good idea, but not everyones going to dl it, first off most people wont read this, we tried it like 3 or 4 times already, and its always kinda failed.

but its also helped alot of lower level players and alts get groups faster, you may have 1 or 2 people sign up for it then you just gotta finish filling the group, plus you also have a page that lists everything your character can craft, and any character you log into with it on your account, so overall i recomoneded getting it, but you wont find a huge rush towards it


also with ace, im not the biggest fan, i love almost all of there addons, but ive never used ace updater, and im having a huge problem right now with fubar because its outof date, and cant find a new upload for it on there site. and i do protest curse, i dont use curse if i can help it, i think i have 2 or 3 addons from curse ( gatherer and sw stats and a couple items that go with it)
 
I do not remember where I read this, it was either on the curse site or wowace site, but it said that wowace was actually created by curse, and still is ran by curse, but in a separate site and group of people, but the group maintaining wowace, is actually part of curse...
 
Someone trying to pull me to WoWAce, said it uses less memory, which is a lie...in order to have similar addons to that I was using off of curse.com I had to use more, and in most cases they were either not a good, or just was too big... When I tried changing to WoWAce, instead of using about 13MBs of RAM for addons, (as I do now), to do the same things, I was using almost 40MBs...!?
 
so after finally dling ace downloader, im in love, and i blame all of you for not naging me to get it earlier, it so helps, instead of every tuesday spending 2 hours checking out all my mods, i just have to check like 2 or 3 that i got from curse and the rest are all good couse i updated them, and if i get bored or am looking for something updater has it, i still say go for calender mod couse i love it, havent spent a day without it yet, but most of you who got it recently havent seen me log in so <3

i no that when we first tried it, we tried using a shared data channel, but that didint work, maybe they updated it or what idn but that would be sweet to check out again, to see if we could get it so those of us with chars in other guilds ( i have an alt guild for all my alts lol) could use it to coord with the rest and people who go on to other guilds etc, can still help out redeemed couse redeemed rocks ya ya ya, anwayz <3 calender mod
