Photoshop!!!

WOOT. One of my friends let me borrow a disk with Photoshop CS2 on it and I installed it (I used a 30-day trial of this version before, so I've got some experience for it under my belt already, and I'm already toying with the best features: layering, draw/fill in transparency (instead of one-color transparency), and the magnetic lasso). So much fun :3
I already used it to make a picture for a theatre project over the Kabuki theatre style:

My brother is going to take a Photoshop class just so that he can get a copy of Photoshop CS3 half off. i can't wait to watch him play with it. BTW that is a cool picture.

You guys should take some screen shots and edit them in Photoshop. I have no experience editing graphics like that, but in my mind's eye I picture Monorail Cat on the great Ascalon Wall or a real person fighting a Charr. I would love to see some user-created "screen shots" like that in the forums. :D

Gimp is fun, and I'm glad it's out there.

But I love my PhotoShop! <3 <3

Just a general reminder: When playing with pics you find on the web, remember: unless it is specified otherwise, they are copyrighted! But with advanced search on Flickr, for instance, you can find PLENTY of photos licensed under Creative Commons! That's a good place to start.

For Christmas my son used PhotoShop to bring all three of my main characters into one setting as a desktop image.

Thanks - he is rapidly becoming a PhotoShop guru. He does some great work.

Copyrights only make it illegal to use their picture for commercial or business purposes without permission, right?

(the picture at the top of the thread was for educational purposes...)

*apologizes for double posting non-spam*
is that a Japanese flag in the background?
tell him good job :3

You all know what my new program does for you, right?

Pictures by request! (and soon i'll have a scanner so i can draw my own stuff!!! [i've wanted a scanner for that purpose for years] :3 )

Edit: my mom got a scanner/copier/printer for Christmas... but i want it more than she does... we traded printers... but when i finished installing the program, my computer froze...

Actually, no.

Wikipedia said:
Several exclusive rights typically attach to the holder of a copyright:

* to produce copies or reproductions of the work and to sell those copies (including, typically, electronic copies)
* to import or export the work
* to create derivative works (works that adapt the original work)
* to perform or display the work publicly
* to sell or assign these rights to others
* to transmit or display by radio or video

The phrase "exclusive right" means that only the copyright holder is free to exercise those rights, and others are prohibited from using the work without his permission.
That's a pretty concise summary, but copyright law is complex. Just because you won't profit from it doesn't mean it's okay. Strictly educational use, such as a school project or report, will generally fall under Fair Use.

For anything else, it's best to assume you have no rights unless the creator of the work specifies otherwise. You will most likely never be prosecuted, but that doesn't make it legal.

*Unless you're profiting from it, it's probably safe to assume you can post, alter, etc. game screen shots, at least if the game has a snapshot or screen capture function. After all, they installed the feature, which certainly implies that they mean for you to use them!
