Happy HAM DAY?

Honey Baked Ham is running the most atrocious "Easter" commercial. It's a bunch of men chanting, "Ham Day, Ham Day, Ham Day." There's also a narrator who tells them there's more to Easter than ham...the pretty flowers in bloom. Which the chanting men related back to ham.

I know that Easter has become totally non-religious for much of America, but it is STILL one of the two holiest days of the year for Christians!

Am I crazy to be disgusted by this? I just can't see a company running a campaign for Passover labeling it "Matzo Week".

Oh, and did I mention it's running on The Fish Atlanta, the local commercial Christian music station?

And it's not like Honey Baked Ham is a small, non-respected company, either. Now they're non-respected. :D

/agree

My in-laws have a big discussion every holiday about whether to pay more for a Honey Baked ham or to buy one from the grocery store. I think I know which way I will vote.

Nope your not crazy at all MM. I don't listen to The Fish at all anymore because of things like this. It is the really just a secular radio station in sheep's clothing. 91.5 is a great station though. And just in case anybody wanted to know for sure, the actual anniversary date of Christ's resurrection this year was April 5th. Just an interesting factoid.

p.s. we don't and wont do easter egg hunts in my household, nor bunnies.

source???

and I really think that God was on the right track saying pig is unclean anyway. Ham is just plain nasty...and to promote Easter like some sporting event....just disgraceful.

Here is a thought though, Maybe an interesting Bible Study... the history of Christian holidays.

edit...I should say though that the reason I don't eat ham is because I just really don't like the taste, not for any religious or philosophical beliefs :)

That would be an interesting Bible Study, Genesis. From what I've heard though - most of them can be traced back to old Roman holidays.

Fixed!

Actually, once Constantine became emperor, he established Christianity as the major religion and forced everyone to obey. He then simply transformed all the pagan holidays into Christian ones.

John 19:14
And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!

John 19:31
The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was a high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

Passover begins 14th of Nisan at sundown on the Jewish calendar, so he was off the cross before sundown.
Interesting on the first day of Passover the following occured:
Jacob and Family enter Egypt
AD 74 Masada falls to the Romans

This year the 14th of Nisan fell on April 2nd and three days later, 17th of Nisan would be April 5th (also the day the Flood ends)!

This is the long version, I have a calender from Koinonia House that is a Prophetic Events Calendar that has all this stuff marked on the correct days. But I figured I would research and give scriptural refrence points for those who wanted to look for themselves. :D

I think the pope did that. And Gen, I don't think there's anything wrong with ham. God told the Jews not to eat it because back they didn't cook things so thoroughly back then and that type of meat typically has more microbial whatnots in it if you cook the first milimeter and consider it done. Nowadays, it would be judged unsafe by the FDA or something.

Haha. C$, that's so wrong.

"Laz, lose the arrogant attitude there..."

God told them not to eat it because ham is an inherently unhealthy meat, imo. Same with crows and vultures and other unclean creatures.

*disclaimer* IMO - IMHO - IMPO *disclaimer*

That's cool. I must be honest, that I have not done enough research to find that information in the Bible.

What I said about ham is just because I really just don't like it. I never have. But my husband likes it....so I fix two meals for dinner one night a year.

I am still amazed that a company would push their product in such a way (been thinking about this all day). Imagine the outrage if Manischewitz did promote Matzo Week and MM suggested.

Yeah, well, I don't like ham either. Especially on pizza. lol.

Well sort of, but this kind of meat can be cooked thoroughly and be good to eat. If you like ham and stuff. (I must admit, though, I LOVE pulled pork or whatever it's called and pork chops. I guess honey hams and stuff I despise while pork isn't so bad--if that makes any sense at all) Although people used to have to eat crows. There's that song about 10 blackbirds in a pie or whatever.

That's a nursery rhyme. *sigh* No other purpose except to make that sentence rhyme. Sheesh.

j/k

Well C$.. don't be surprised if you get trichinosis. ;)

this year my mom got 'resurection eggs' --they look pretty cool.

it is going to be new for my brother and sisters.....this year they are getting the resurection eggs instead of the typical easter basket, etc.

I don't think that's a good idea... j/k

Ham and pork are unhealthy in more ways than one, though. They've done studies and research that show that that eating that kind of meat increases your risk of getting cancer in various areas of your body.

And eating donuts increases your chances of being fat. I still eat 'em.
