The thing with me getting contacts is that I have astigmatism AND a lot of far-sightedness, which means it was kind of iffy whether or not I could wear contacts.

A couple days of non-stop prayer never hurts, which is what I did... and whether or not that's related to it, I am now a-okay for contact lenses! :D :D :D

Oh, contacts! I don't think I really read your message before. Anyways, I've worn contacts for quite a few years. Even with my uber-dry eyes, I'm pretty a-ok. I use a fancy kind of lens that breathes easy. My only problem is that I'm out of refills! Consequently, I've been wearing the same pair longer than I should be.

Well I might hafta get some gas-permeable whatsit so it'll suck my eyes into shape (astigmatism ftl), or maybe not I really don't know how it all works :P

Hey C$, what's your prescription? Do you know? There are soft lenses for astigmatism if you don't have too much of it, but the vision often isn't as good as with gas permeable lenses. GPs (gas perms) take a bit longer to get used to, but ultimately they will be very comfortable and healthy for your eyes.

Also, there are new lens materials now that are better for far-sighted prescriptions. (sorry if you know this already but other people might be interested?) The main reason far-sighted lenses have been a problem is that these kinds of lenses are thicker in the middle, so not much oxygen gets through. But with the new materials let more oxygen through even though the lens is thicker. Also, with GPs, they move around on your eye more so the tears under the lens move around more which also helps with the oxygen.

Oh, and GPs do kind of mold your cornea over time. But if you have too much astigmatism for a "regular" GP, they might still put some of the astigmatism prescription in it.

Let me know how all this goes. I'm an eyeball geek (i.e. optometry student).
