My linux Adventures(on the desktop) begin

I have found a distro that simply works out of the box on my hardware:

PCLinuxOS. It detected all of my hardware and simply worked. I do have to manually install the ATI drivers for full 3d but full 2d works fine(with the open source fglrx 2d driver..it's not running a generic vga driver). I have a nforce2 mobo and an ati radeon 9600. This combination is usually a deathknell for any distro. Now i can concentrate on learning desktop Linux..:)

Link, please? :)

EDIT: Nevermind. I stopped being lazy and starting using Google. Here's the link.

They are beta testing a new version. HOld of doing anything until that's done(unless you want to help beta test it..<G>..I am..<G>)

ubuntu failed u O_O i love ubuntu, but cent os better for servers >.> i think HES would agree too

I have other reasons besides technical for not liking ubuntu. The latest release is actually unstable and users are waiting for some patches.

Yeah, I'd stick to Dapper if I hadn't already upgraded, it has given me a fair bit of crap. I had to go through a ton of stuff to get my sound working properly and consistently, but now it works with no problems, and I've got no other complaints with Edgy. Aside from some hardware issues I had with it initially, Edgy works fine. I really love Ubuntu and how easy to use it is, it makes Linux easy to use while retaining all the nerdyness you could want.
And the stoopid wireless doesn't work!
What wireless card do you have? I know I've fixed multiple wireless cards by searching around online with my problem (not just on ubuntu). Did you try using the ndiswrapper program which uses your windows driver?

I didn't try very much. I downloaded something... but that didn't do much. I'm not good with a command prompt, so I'm pretty helpless, like a kitten. Except I'm allergic to cats, kind of.

Anyways, I've been using M$XP for quite awhile now, and for some reason I'm having NO problems. It's really kind of awe inspiring. Then again, it's probably because I only use it for M$Word. As soon as I load a game on it, it'll run crappy until I reformat again.

theres a handy thing called google : yum commands and also how to guides, thats how ive taught myself, talon has helped alot too

I don't like to partition my hard drive, like I did with Ubuntu. I hate rebooting and then having to wait to select "MSXP," as Ubuntu was what it loaded to by default.

There also a new Ubuntu Desktop edition out, and a Kubuntu, which I believe is similar.

Xubuntu is a great desktop for low-end machines or for those who want to go minimalist.
