Well, tomorrow the McGuire household officially starts our home-schooling for the year. As I enter the 11th grade, I just want to let you know that you may not see me online and as active as you've seen me in the past months. Since my time at home is dwindling (especially with the possibility of going away to college) I really want to concentrate on my schoolwork to be the best I can be before heading off to college in a couple years. After all, assuming I do go to college, it'll be the first time I've ever been a pupil in a "real" school.

Again, it's not like I'll never be online to see you guys, but it probably won't be as often as I have been recently (or as often as I'd like to). And, this may not be permanent. It may let up in a couple weeks once I get settled back in.

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me! God bless!

as in programming and posting in the forums :P

hehe good luck on the homeschool thing, I think it is a bad idea really, soo many people end up being bad introverts.

Some may be introverts, many are not. Just like any population. Some have good social skills, some do not....

Besides, there are co-ops.

how about posting some facts to backup your broad statements? Stitistics how most homeschoolers blow away pulbic schoolers in all academic areas AND have higher social skills as well.

Oh! VibroKatana got pwned!

And I would love to be homeschooled. All the things I've been exposed to as high school have gotten me shrugging my shoulder at things I should be outraged at. I'd also love to be able to study things that are CHALLENGING and not be screwed over in the stupid Chicago math program. I should be in Calc 3 or 4 right now, instead I'm stuck just at the beginning.

vibrokatana: If I wanted to debate the fact that my mom and dad made an excellent choice in home-schooling me all my life, I would've started a different thread. But I don't, and I didn't, so please don't de-rail this thread. The thread was a simple warning that I may not be online as often as usual.

*sigh* Home-schoolers and Mac fans just don't get a break, do they? :D

Because you have no reputation upon which to make statements that most home-schoolers are introverts.

Yeah, I've heard of Google. It returned this:
Those who oppose homeschooling also believe that homeschoolers are social introverts who cannot function in the “real world” because they lack exposure in a public school setting. In reality, however, most homeschoolers are more in tune with the “real world” than many of their publicly educated peers will ever be.

The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), a U.S. government agency, has published multiple articles on home education. Here are excerpts from one which examined several studies on home-educated children socialization:

According to the findings, children who were educated at home "gained the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to function in society...at a rate similar to that of conventionally schooled children."

and;

The researcher found no difference in the self concept of children in the two groups, and maintains that "insofar as self concept is a reflector of socialization, it would appear that few home-schooled children are socially deprived, and that there may be sufficient evidence to indicate that some home-schooled children have a higher self concept than conventionally schooled children."
case closed, I was basing my view as I saw in some of my friends who had been homeschooled. as stated before, it varies from person to person.
