Well, I'll only have ten days, starting Dec. 8, to play World of Warcraft, so I'd like to have my character classes and names set by the time I start.

Toward that end, I'm asking for input on what class I should play. Here's some basic information about my style of MMO play:
  • I usually start playing any MMO with a fighter class to learn the game interface, but since I already played during the beta, I trust I have a firm grasp on the controls.
  • During my time in Midgard (Dark Age of Camelot), I enjoyed playing a Troll Shaman who could neatly switch from healing his allies to taking a few swipes at the enemy when victory was assured or when the party had an excess of healers.
  • I'm definitely the social type of gamer. In fact, the primary purpose of this 10-day visit is to fellowship with members of Tribe of Judah's guilds and The Forgiven.
  • I'm big on playing characters with the ability to heal other players: Troll Shaman in Dark Age of Camelot, medic in TeamFortress Classic, and gorge in Natural Selection. When I play Dystopia, I usually pick the loadout best equipped to heal my teammates.
  • While I'd like to be able to solo when necessary, the purpose of my visit is social in nature, so ability to level quickly without a group is trivial.
  • For some reason, I prefer to play taller characters. Maybe that's because I am tall in real life. But it might have something to do with fond memories of playing an impressively tall Shaman who frequently quested with a familiar dwarf (screenshot dated Feb. 4, 2002). I have plenty of love for the vertically challenged, though, so my preference is not a strong one.
  • I like being able to carry a lot of stuff. This may not even come into play in WoW, but in DAoC, the stronger your character, the more you could carry. The more you could carry, the better armor you could get and the less frequently you'd have to run to town to sell your stuff. Basically, I like to quest at my leisure and not feel pressured to run back to town until I finish what I'm working on.
Given my style of play, what race would you all recommend?

Paladin is a good Warrior/Priest mix. My main is a Druid, which is a good Mage/Warrior/Rogue/Priest mix. I voted for Paladin since you don't get the full spectrum of druid abilities until level 20 and you're only going to be playing for 10 days.

I am also going with Human Paladin. You can heal, and also be a tank, not as much as a warrior but you can still stand on your own much better. My next choice would be a Night Elf Druid, you can heal and take some damage, the difference between the Palidin and Druid is that for Palidins you are in their face fighter, where as with the Druid you can be up close but not as much damage but you are more of a distance fighter. So if you like up close fighting then go with Palidin, if you like to be some distance from what you are attacking then go with a Druid

GO GO SHAMAN!!!

on serious note though gotta agree with previous posts, you're gonna prefer pallies...if you like being tall then a Night Elf Druid is also good.

A little bird told me that Paladins are currently considered the least desirable class to play. I've also read that this will be addressed in the 1.9.0 patch, but it has not been confirmed that Blizzard will push the 1.9.0 patch before Dec. 8. If they push the patch before I start playing, there's a good chance I'll roll a Paladin.

I should have mentioned in my first post that I'll be rolling both Alliance and Horde characters, but this poll applies to Alliance only. I considered making a separate thread for my Horde character, but I feel I've already drawn enough attention on this forum. ^^

For my Horde character, I'll likely roll a Tauren Shaman. I dig the idea of playing an older character with a profound respect and appreciation for the earth.
