The Christian Gamers Alliance aStore

The CGA now has an Amazon affiliate store. You can check it out here.

Purchases made through the aStore help support the CGA.

If you'd like to see an item on Amazon.com added to the CGA aStore, post a reply with the link to the item.

The CGA aStore may bring in a few dollars here and there, but the Alliance is still a member-supported community (meaning all expenses are covered by member donations). We will NOT be adding ads to the forums or web site and we will NEVER require a "cover charge" to participate in our community.

Can I suggest you add World of Warcraft, any game we talk about in this forum, music by Project 86, and A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O'Connor?

Also possibly add some Tobias Wolff books, like In The Garden of the North American Martyrs.

Good choices, just I already have most of them, including the trilogy, read that over 40 years ago.

Adding more items would require time and effort, which means I'd likely delegate the task rather than manage the aStore myself. I'm not sure if it would bring in more than a dollar or two now and then, but if anyone else wants to manage the aStore, he or she is over 18, and is a member in good standing in the community, let me know.

Otherwise, I'll probably leave it as it is. (Yes, I know I asked for recommendations for items to add, but I wasn't thinking ahead when I said that. Now that I'm remembering how much else I have to do, I've opted to delegate.) :D

EDIT: All great suggestions, by the way.

Actually, I'd love to see the aStore have a link to every item that is discussed in General Discussions on an ongoing basis. However, that's going to require a staff member appointment...

So how does this work? Members send out these items, or do purchases go to Amazon and the CGA store gets part of it?

Indeed.

It's not that difficult to add items to the store. The staff member would just need to log in with the Amazon Affiliates account (which would mean that the member would need to be 18 over AND be someone I'd trust with financial matters), navigate to the item page, click the "Add to aStore" button on the "site stripe" at the top of every Amazon.com page when a user is logged in, select an item category, and click Save. There's a spot for an optional custom description, but I don't think that would be necessary or advantageous in most cases.

The latter. We get a commission off every item purchased from the aStore. It's not much, but it's greater than zero, so if you're planning on buying something on Amazon.com anyway, you might as well start at our aStore then proceed from there. If you start at the linked posted previously and buy something not listed on the aStore, I think (though I would need to look at various FAQs and such to verify) that we still get a commission.

With the amount of traffic we see, the aStore isn't going to pay the bills or even come anywhere close. It might allow a CGA staff member to get a frozen yogurt every 6 months or so (if we used money for personal expenses, which, of course, we don't), but it's not going to put a significant dent in our yearly expenses. (My apologies for crushing the dreams of those hoping to build a web site, quit their day job, and live on commissions from sites like Amazon. Ain't gonna happen.)

I can link you to the RadioU page for amazon, there's a ton of music that I wouldn't see any sense in us not eventually adding. Stuff like Pillar and Project 86 and such.

I've updated the CGA aStore with several more video games. Amazon doesn't offer any way to move items between categories, so I had to remove everything from the Video Games category and re-add the items to sub-categories.

We now have sub-categories for Nintendo DS, PC, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360.

Anyone interested in helping manage the aStore can post a reply here or send a PM to me and cgdoc519 (CGA's Staff Manager).

I'm old and almost non-existent but i peruse through here everyday, and thats something ive been wanting to grow and learn more about (affiliation because i run some stuff through twitter too for it). I would be down for that and be able to allocate time to that.

I buy quite a bit from Amazon - have an annual 2-day shipping account.

Do I have to submit the books/items to you - have you put them on the CGA store - then make the purchase - for us to get credit? If so, what is the turn-around on that happening?

yes to the first. and the turn around for the store to essentially have a payout is the the end of the month usually or on a different payment cycle

I meant the turn-around on making the request and the store listing the item. I order from Amazon because of price and two days later I have it in my hand.

I think it would be awesome if (and here I'm dreaming) whenever someone said "Hey, Okami is on Amazon for cheap!" suddenly their word Okami became a purple link to Okami on the aStore.

Buuuut, that would be a lot of work for whomever was saddled with doing it.

should be close to instant but may take an hour or 5 >.>

there are also ways to just create hyperlinks with our store code if im not mistaken and just post that to get commission.

That would be a great option - then I could take care of it myself.

Today or tomorrow I have to buy a Bible and have it here by Friday.

I believe CGA gets commission on any sale where the user starts the browsing experience from the CGA aStore, though I could be mistaken.

I haven't invested much effort or time in our Amazon Affiliates account yet because it hasn't proven very profitable and I'm already occupied with other projects. I would need a staff member to manage the store.

Speaking of which...

Atown: Send a PM to me and cgdoc519 volunteering for the Amazon Affiliate Store Manager position and we'll take it from there.
