Spiritual Warfare - The Battleground of Your Mind

1Peter 5:8 ¶ “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10 ¶ But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”

I In 1Peter 5:8 we see the game plan and intent of the devil. He uses his tools of temptation, despair, spiritual desolation, and depression. His two favorite tools are guilt and isolation. Sometimes God lets us travel through some dry places to test us or to make us aware of our need to stay surrendered to Him. Often times He allows us to go through a trial so we can rely on Him to show us how to get through it. And once we do, we can share it with others and pull them out of the spiritual fire, so to speak.

1Pe 4:12 ¶ “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.”

In 1Peter5:9 we see that we need to realize the mind games that the devil and his demons play, and stand up to them and resist them. Not only that, but realizing that you are not the only Christian going through these things. Don’t let the devil isolate you and put you on a guilt trip. Other Christians are fighting the same battles within. You are not alone !!!

Make up your mind to be sober and vigilant, and stand your ground !

Philippians 2:5 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:”

2Corinthians 10:3 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”

In 1Peter 5:10, we see that God allows these trials for a reason and will give us purpose and establish a warrior’s heart within us. He will settle us, and give peace, wisdom, and strength to help us in the midst of the storms of life. Just remember what I’m about to tell you….. When the Holy Spirit convicts you of sin, any conviction that happens after you have repented of it, and confessed it, is of the devil.
The devil always tries to stretch things out of proportion and does not want you to have reconciliation with God. The devil doesn’t want you to be restored to God, and he definitely doesn’t want you to have peace. He wants you to trip out on your own guilt and have you throw in the towel. If he can defeat you on the battleground of your mind, then he has accomplished his task and will make you an ineffective Christian with no victory. Nobody feels like winning souls to Christ if their joy and peace is robbed from them.
You feel so defeated within yourself, you say, “How can I tell anyone else about Christ, if I cannot even solve my own problems ?” I have been there and done that a few times. Just remember, you aren’t the only one going through these things.

All of us as Christians are in this thing together, and we need to help each other up out of the pit of despair sometimes. I know this is why God let me experience some of the horrible things that I have had to experience in life, so I could know how bad hurting inside could feel and be.
He put me through these trials and delivered me through these trials so I could know how to minister to hurting Christians. What a wonderful and merciful God, who, when I walked away from Him earlier in life, had mercy on me, restored me, and gave me a purpose and a ministry as well. Glory to His name !!! The Lord Jesus Christ will do the same for you, if you let Him.

Victory is yours for the taking. Don’t let the devil cheat you out of the joy that God wants you to have. Realizing the methods and tools of the enemy is half the battle. The way to have victory in your Christian walk is primarily two things. Spend time listening to God through studying His Word every day and spend time talking to him in prayer every day as well. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:17, “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD…..What this means is that the instrument that the Holy Spirit uses as a vehicle to reveal God’s wisdom, strength, peace, and power to your heart is The Bible, God’s Word. If you want fullness of power in the Holy Spirit, you have to go to the source of the power. The source of the Holy Spirit is the word of God, and as well, the instrument that Holy Spirit uses to reveal itself to mankind is the Word of God.

The Bible, God’s word, is the channel or avenue in which the Holy Spirit travels. There is no other source from which it comes from. Remember, God is triune…God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. In John 1:1 the Bible says this….” ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. If you want fullness of power from God from His Holy Spirit, then go where God and His Holy Spirit dwell….The Word of God. Psalm 40:7 “Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,” God tells us where He is at….In His Word, for He is the Word.
If you stay in God’s Word, the Bible, every day, in due time God will impart to you power from on high and you will develop Holy wisdom and power to resist the devil and his temptations and you will start to obtain multiple victories over temptations, guilt, depression, and isolation. Not only that, you will start to win victory after victory in many facets of your life that you never thought possible.
You will not be thinking on the carnal “natural man plain”, but you will start to think on the spiritual plain as God does.
It is a whole different dimension of thought. When you stay in God’s Word, you are staying with Him. You will start to sense His presence and His power after a while, and that is when you will be soaring over the clouds with God. And as well as hearing God’s will through His Word, you need to talk to Him as well in prayer. Share your heart with Him, give him all your cares, and needs and longings and petitions on behalf of others.. Have a communion in your heart with him and share your love with Him and He will make His love for you known unto your heart. It is the most wonderful experience you will ever know. He will bless you and help you through life until we cross the river into heaven, and then we will have eternal holy bliss forever. When you put these two things into practice, Bible study and prayer, victory is yours, and the devil can’t touch you there. The power of God is accessible and available to you to be an over comer and have victory in your Christian walk. You get way more than you put in to it from God. Jesus wants you to experience the victorious life, and I do too. Below is a poem that I had written years ago in the 1980’s, called “The Battleground of Your Mind”. I hope it will be a blessing and an eye opener to all of you who partake in the reading of it.

The Battleground of Your Mind

On the battleground of your mind,
There is an adversary you will find,
He wants to torment you and destroy your very soul.
There is no end to his deceitful ways,
And the many mind games he plays,
To ruin lives, is his one and only goal.

In the book of Revelation the Bible does tell,
How this evil adversary is headed for Hell,
And one day he’ll be cast in a lake of fire.
Yes, he knows his fleeting days are numbered,
And finally in flames he will be encumbered,
In outer darkness, his sentence shall never expire.

And the only satisfaction he can find,
Is defeating people on the battleground of their mind,
So he can deceive them straight into a sinner’s Hell.
Even if you’re saved, he’ll set for you his snares,
He’ll bait with temptation to trap you in despair,
To spiritually disarm you in ways he knows so well.

And he does not want you to realize,
How the Bible can open up your eyes,
To reveal the treachery of the devil.
And regardless of what you’ve heard,
The devil’s a hater of God’s true Word,
And I’m giving it to you all on the level.

Satan will try any way he can,
To defile the mind of man,
While using lies and deceit as his wicked tools.
And as his methods are all unfair,
He just laughs at our pain and despair,
As he tries his hardest to make us look like fools.

He’s the master of disguise,
For he is robed in many lies,
He wants to defeat you on the battleground of your mind.
There’s no limit to the boundaries of his fraud,
As he tries to turn our hearts away from God,
For he’ll use any devious way he can find.

While trying to make the truth unclear,
He will attack you with doubt and fear,
For he’s a liar and a murderer from the beginning.
But we can hold the ground we’ve trod,
Standing firmly on the world of God,
For God’s promises put us on the side that’s winning.

And “whosoever will” can wholeheartedly rest assured,
They can have the victory in God’s Holy Word,
For the Lord is able to deliver all of mankind.
Let not your heart be troubled and blue,
For greater is Jesus that dwells in you,
To claim the victory on the battleground of your mind.

Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

I hope this message and poem will be an encouragement to those of you in need.
God Bless all of you !!!

I agree that Satan is battling for our minds. I have seen children raised in a Christian family leave their faith. Do we really know what we believe? Would we be able to answer any questions an agnostic may have? I Peter 3:15 says "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear." I wish more churches would have classes in philosophy/apologetics. We need to know about other religions as well to be able to compare views. Some good books that I have read are When Worldviews Collide by Ergun Caner, Metaphysics by William Hasker, Philosophy of Religion by C. Stephen Evans, Epistemology by W. Jay Wood, Love Your God with all your Mind by J.P. Moreland, and Handbook of Christian Apologetics by Kreeft and Tacelli. I believe that if more churches also taught philosophy/apologetics we would keep more members in the church, and Christians would be prepared to boldly share their faith and answer any questions an unbeliever may have about the realities of this world.
