Tek and his virtual pets

So recently I made mention of my <3 of virtual pets, which borders on the unreasonable. During the Wintersday, I collected 3 of the 5 minis (credit for the third goes to my very generous wife, who I now feel I should reimburse the cost that 250 Stuffing could have earned on Trading Post). But before I ever started playing GW2, I employed a different vehicle for virtual pet-collecting: World of WarCraft.

As evidence of my penchant for Pokemon-style play ("Gotta catch 'em all!") in games, I present the following:

My stable of combat pets (including a cat that is only available through a quest spawn--the quest is only available to players of the opposite faction)

Unfortunately, I haven't logged in since Mists of Pandaria released, so my 51 companion pets are no longer listed on my character profile on the WoW Armory. I have a 7-day free trial that may help rectify Blizzard's negligence.

Fortunately, I took screenshots when I collected my 51st companion pet. You can see the screenshots in this thread.

So yes, I'll be looking to collect as many minis as is (relatively) reasonable. :)

Blizzard made PokeWoW. GW2 needs it, too.

/shamelessly loves most things Pokemon and wants more Pokemon elements in other games

Now I'm trying to remember, wasn't there talk of being able to fight pets as a mini-game in GW2?

Is that what the arena in Lion's arch is for, whenever they get it implemented? It's been a while, so it's all a little fuzzy. I know they've made space to put in Polymock at some point. Thought there were plans for something pokemonish, but I'm not confident I didn't make that up.

If you have such an obsession for collecting pets why do you hate them so much in TF2?
Not sure what you mean. I care about all the Heavies I heal.

And yes, combat minis in GW2 would be fantastic (especially since WoW still carries a $15/month subscription model and I'm only interested in playing again to be social and to play PokeWoW).

This would make me happy happy happy. :D

You aren't wrong to remember mini-pet/polymock, but those have not been implemented yet and I haven't heard hints or word that they are planning them any time soon.. However, we are due for some awesome content updates in the next few months. January will have a nice content release and February is WvW update!

Some of those aren't pets that do anything but they are still animals you can collect if you really are a "Pet Collector". And that's just some of the misc slot items. Personally I'd count the Triboniophorus Tyrannus as a pet as well as some other items you could collect if you so choose.
I haven't paid attention to TF2 items for months now. I gave up a while back on even sorting my backpack and only delete creates when I get a notice that my backpack is full.

The difference? In GW2, collecting minis is part of the game rather than a meta-game. In TF2, trading is done outside of the game and doesn't involve actual gameplay.

It's a matter of personal preference, I know, but I lost interest in TF2 trading a while back.

Gotta catch em all (that you want)?

On a side note - I have over $120 in my steam wallet from trading those items that you delete for keys that I sold on the market. Instead of deleting the stuff how about you give it to someone who can turn it into something useful... I even managed to give away a couple games during this past sale and I was always giving away weapons and stuff on Tuesday nights.

Bird of Pray sells stuff to buy medicine for his wife.
I sell stuff and give back to the community.
Either one of us could put all your useless junk to good use instead of just deleting it (this goes to anyone who has TF2 stuff in their backpack they don't use or want).

I understand your zeal for these cutesy creatures, Tek.

As for the idea of fighting minis, here's what I know. First, there's an ArenaNet arena in south LA (mentioned above) with 2 minis in the ring. Gaile Gray responded directly to being asked about them saying "maybe they're just enjoying each others' company" (or something like that). I, for one, would love an excuse to utter the phrase, "Go for the eyes, Foostivoo!"

Polymock is coming; count on it. There is a goal to have LOTS of mini games (numerous sources). There is a Polymock Arena Asura gate under construction in east Rata Sum. The arena is *actually* in game as well; forget how to get there and it's very unfinished with many walls you can fall through/etc.

If we could use our minis for it, that'd be a dream as long as it wasn't buy to win...and doable, considering most all of them already have attack animations. So much potential.
