Team Redeemed and Karazhan
So, you're working on the Karazhan attunement quests or have already completed them and are wondering
what's next.
Karazhan is a very difficult dungeon that requires an amazing amount of teamwork by good players with good gear. Although our "test" team was largely successful, we found that the experience was much harder than we initially imagined. Karazhan is definitely something for those of you who like challenges, and now the opportunity is here.
What We Learned
The attitude of the individual raider is extremely important. Patience was our number one factor for success. The best advice our test team can give you is to hang in there and keep fighting, and to encourage each other. Don't become frustrated or weary after the first few attempts; just stick with it and keep going. Teamwork is also very important. It is apparent that you have to work together far, far more in this instance than we ever have before. The gear, talents, and ability of the individual characters and players are also significant determining factors in the success of the raid. We learned that you must have the appropriate gear to down the bosses, must be specced in a way to most benefit the raid, and must be an attentive player.
What To Expect
Raiding Karazhan will likely take months for the two groups being formed. Bosses will most certainly require many attempts before downing them, even after the strategy is well known to everyone. Single mob pulls can easily wipe the group, even when you think everyone's prepared. You will have to race a respawn timer on the way to the boss, and may end up having to clear the room after every attempt, or possibly even multiple times before the attempt. Having to pay 30 gold in repair bills for one run is also not entirely uncommon.
The numbers:
Trash mobs can hit well geared tanks for up to over five thousand damage on any normal attack (IE: they hit that much consistently).
Trash mobs can crit non-tanks for up to over eighteen thousand damage.
Most rooms are on a thirty to sixty minute cooldown timer, meaning that all the adds in that room will respawn every thirty minutes to one hour until that particular boss is downed.
It is entirely normal for each person to have to spend an upwards of fifty gold every run for potions, plus an additionaly thirty gold in repairs.
How To Deal With It
Come prepared, be patient, and and do whatever you can to lift up those around you. Listen to the raid leaders, they will give good advice, and they know full well what they're doing; they're truly an amazing bunch of people.
How To Prepare
One good way to prepare for the challenges of our first raid is to start running heroic instances. You can easily get reputation with Honor Hold, Cenarian Expedition, Lower City, Keeper's of Time, and Sha'tar. Do any instance of your choosing on heroic to better gauge what raiding Karazhan is like, but don't judge its difficulty just yet. Karazhan is still harder than any of the Heroics.
Read our Karazhan Progression thread in the raid forums for a summary of how we downed each boss.
Make sure your character is "in shape". Do the research and try to find where you can get upgrades for your character, and do the absolute best you can to obtain them. Furthermore, find the best gems and enchants for your items, and get them. Look in **Rare Crafting List** for a list of our members' professions, find something you like, and then try to hook up with that person in-game.
Read up on the boss fights for the strategies. While the raid leader will explain all fights, it is best if the members also look into this information themselves, before the raid starts. This will help alleviate any questions you may have after the raid is started.
I would also suggest looking into the loot that drops. While we don't want our raid members to be greedy, we do want you to have an idea beforehand of what you may want from particular bosses. This will help speed up the distribution process.
"Must have" Addons
KTM Threat Meter - measures the amount of threat each party member produces. This is extremely important for tanks, dps, and healers to have.
Ventrilio - a high quality voice chat program used by the raid leaders to coordinate strategies with members.
BigWigs - a tool that helps with scripted fights
You can find all of these addons and more at www.curse-gaming.com
I would also highly suggest talking with your class leader. There is a list of all available class leaders in this forum thread .
What To Bring
Potions, regeants, enchants, and food with "well fed" bonuses. Also, it is highly beneficial to bring a secondary set of gear with different stats, such as high stamina for certain boss fights. Do the research, ask questions, and find out what you need to bring!
Below is a listed of easily obtainable items for use with Karazhan. Search through them, find the ones you like and are beneficial to your class and specc, and bring stacks of them. If you are interested in helping to craft and create items then please let us know!
