Well my laptop bit the dust. The LCD screen went out and its being sent back to the manufacturer, who know how long it will take. So no computer for me, i have to bum a computer from my bros when they are not on. I'm looking at another laptop for gaming/college. I've checked most everywhere i can think of, i will take suggestions for laptops/brands. I checked at, compusa, ciruitcity, best buy, pc club, newegg, sager notebooks, alienware, falcon-nw, hp, compaq, compucare, sony, toshiba, acer and abs (i do not want a dell, emachines, or gateway, i'll die first, not literly but you get the point). I'm looking for a non wide screen notebook, 15", 14" dedicated 128mb graphics, radeon 9700 or geforce 5700 or higher, P4 with HT 3ghz or better, amd 3200 64bit 512kb L2 or higher, 512mb ram, upgradeable to 2gbs or higher, pc3200 speed or higher. 4 or 8x dual format dvd burner, standard hdd, 40gb 5400rmp or higher, preferably 60gb 7200 rpm. weight 7lbs or under, battery life 1.5hrs or longer. Here is the big one under $1200

any suggestions/references to websites or specific sites will be appreaciated

ok, scratch the new laptop idea, it was just no possible getting a laptop for specs for the price, i'm building a desktop computer. A gaming computer, 3ghz p4, 512 ddr2, dvd burner, radeon x600xt pcie graphics, case w/450w P/S, gigabyte mobo with 1 pcie 16x graphics slot, 200gb wd 7200 rpm hdd.

Well, I was feeling sympathy for you, too, until I read the specs of the PC you're going to build. *G* Nah, just teasin'. I don't have a laptop m'self, but could imagine I'd be rather upset if it just up and died. Glad to hear you're able to send it back, though. I'll be praying that the manufacturer returns it to you quickly AND that you'll get some sweet deals on your new PC build.
 
Oh no, if you are playing on a desktop instead of a laptop you will be killing me before I logon to the server LOL.

Sorry to hear about it. I was wondering what happened since I did not see you on. Have you looked in to Dell's or Toshibas?

I don't understand much about PC's , But URa bought a Laptob for $1,000 and he usually wants the best. I will ask him what exactly he got. Gee as long as my PC is working i'll be fine. Sorry to hear that about the PC.

I'm a gamer and the game I would love to have run the smoothest is Flight sim 2004, my laptop would handle about 28fps. I was running on a 2.8ghz p4, non HT, 1gb 400mhz ram, and a geforce go 5700 graphics card, 64mb, 8x agp, 350mhz core OC'ed to 400mhz, 580mhz memory clock OC'ed to 600mhz. I was able to play hl2 and cs:s at about 25fps.

Here is my final system specs i'm going to buy as long as my mom approves. Its all from newegg, i already have the hard drive and ram and furthure expansion cards (wireless, tv turner)

Ok, i'm back and will be playing cs now. wohooo. Benched 7500 3dmarks 03 and runs counter strike source on 85fps with the vid stress test with 1280x1024 with max graphics, no vsync, no aa (anti-alisning), trillinear af (antiscopic filtering). Flight sim runs 25 solid fps with max graphics, 8x aa and 16x af. Graphics are so amazing. I'll post pics once i finish paiting my sound system and get my computer back in my room.

I remember being suprised with my build's 3dmarks. When I built my computer, it only recognized my CPU as being 1.25 Ghz instead of 2 Ghz. Strange. O_o o_O

Perhaps that's why I can't get a solid FPS on Half-Life 2 on lowest settings :-O

hmm thats odd, very odd. my brothers computer is a 1.7ghz p4 with 512 ram and a geforce fx 5200, and he can run hl2 at 30fps on low settings. My old laptop ran hl2 about 25 on max graphics, it was 2.8ghz p4, 1gb ram, and a geforce 5700 graphics card.

Did you get the cpu to be recognized at full speed?

got my comp in its place and fully up and running with everything, except new ram next month :D

This is the first time i have ever had a computer that is even close to high performance or "top of the line" its always budget that will barily run games. :p
