Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so they won’t become discouraged.
Colossians 3:20-21, HCSB

Children have a duty to submit to their parents, but fathers have a duty to show love and patience with their children. Fathers should train their children to understand the value and rewards of obedience, but they should do so in a way that doesn't discourage their children or break their spirit.

Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers out there!

That bit of the verse is appropriately selected for Fathers day but what gets me is when people only quote "18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord." like the Bible is against women and then ignore there is something for every family member...

"19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God;

23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;"

It seems to address the things every family member fails in most and then puts the importance of submitting to God higher.
