salvation through the church according to Mel

Well, there you go. You people had better convert to Catholicism lest ye be damned. Leo Volont warned you before, and now it's Mel Gibson.
 
You know. This kind of reminds me of Andy Kauffman. At the end of his life, he was very ill. So he sought all kinds of different religions for help. None of which worked. Wouldn't it have been cool if he had found Christianity during that time and gave his heart to Jesus?

You see, stuff like this is wierd to us Christians because its as if people were trying different things to breathe. Wouldn't it be silly if someone tried to breathe water, or tried to breathe cotton? You and I know that we're supposed to breathe air because that's reality. In the same way, we believe in Christ because that's reality, and to breathe water (without any kind of gil or scuba gear) is as silly as bowing to Budda (who never claimed to be a God).

Just wanted to toss that in there.
 
perfluorocarbon - the simple answer isn't necessarily the best. It's just the simplest. Lots of people find that Christianity isn't for them - for some of them (to continue your metaphor) Christianity is about as much use as 1 atmosphere air at the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

As for the quote itself - personally I trust Mels grasp of theology about as much as I trust his grasp of History.

I beg to differ. I say no one will go to heaven. No one will go to hell. You will die, and that will be it. God and heaven are a fantasy as far as I'm concerned.
 
We don't know who ultimately goes to heaven of hell. The Bible tells you how to get there for sure. You can sometimes tell by a persons walk and talk, but only God knows their heart and motives.

If you believe in death as lights out, dirt nap. Suit yourself. You probably think you're related to an ape too (evolution since you don't believe in an intelligent creator). Either case I hope you're right. For your sake not mine.
 
all i know is from what Mel said in the article it appears that to go to heaven to him you have to
Believe in Jesus as Gods son and accept him into your life, and believe what he did.

Umm as far as i know that is all that God and Jesus really calls us to.... the rest is commentary, Accept Jesus and Love is all we need.

You are right, I do not know for sure, and I am definitely not one to judge.

However from what I understood from the article is that Mel believed you needed to go to or be part of the church.  His opinion that his wife was better than he was, yet did not go to church she was in danger of not being able to go to heaven.

I have not found one verse in scripture that says you have to go to church to be able to go to heaven, hence why I think his reasoning is not biblicly based.

As to his salvation, that is up to God.  If the movie is everything I have heard about it, I think Mel was being directed by the will of God.  Mr. Gibson is rare in his fame and having the resources to make another biblical movie become so main stream.

Master Plan what do you believe in if not God, heaven, and hell?
 
TastyWheat, I don't care about Pascal's Wager. While I cannot be certain that a god doesn't exist, I am quite certain in my mind that if one does exist, he is not what or who you say he is. I am not the least bit worried about some eternal damnation or punishment; if god exists, you know nothing more about him then I do, and I don't see myself as being in a worse position than you or anyone else. Christians say that Muslims and Jews are going to hell, the Jews say that the other two groups are going to hell, and the Muslims say the same thing again. So, basically, everyone else is heading straight to hell, according to each group, but nobody has a compelling and convincing argument for their side. Ridiculous. Every religion is full of it as far as I can tell.
 
yes it seems every religion has a heaven and a hell or some sort, and some have reincarnation. Most religions teach that if you are a good person and do good works, you'll be fine. As if God will be impressed by our earthly resume. What is different with our faith here is that we believe we don't deserve to go there and the only way to get in is through Jesus. Good works follow a true conversion, but it's not required for entry.

Anyways it's hard to prove God, science tries to disprove all the time. Both creation and evolution need faith to belive IMO.
