Hi CGA friends,
I have a prayer request for myself. Now don't laugh, I've been having a tendon problem in my right middle finger since last year. It's called "trigger finger." I had the same problem last year with my thumb as I inadvertently strained the tendon after hand stretching and only went to the doctor when the thumb kept locking and I could no longer ignore the pain. That required surgery.
It seemed right after I recovered from the surgery, my right middle finger began displaying similar traits. I ignored it because I believed it wasn't that bad. About 2 months ago I was examining my middle finger and felt this bump at the base of it. It's about 3/4-inches wide by 1/2-inch high by 1/2-inch deep. I saw an orthopedic specialist who gave me a cortisone shot in the middle finger. That helped the trigger finger for about a month then it returned. It did nothing for the bump. For the past month, I've been waking up in the morning with my middle finger swollen and mildly locking in place. Plus there's a dull type of pain that has now reached a wide arc below the middle finger. For the past week, when I clench my fist, I hear this rather loud popping sound from my palm that sends a jolt down to my wrist causing pain after awhile.
I saw the orthopedic specialist last week for a follow up. He diagnosed the bump as a ganglion cyst. He said usually the cyst is removed by inserting a needle in the cyst and removing the jelly-like substance. However, since there's also the problem with the trigger finger, it may require surgery as well. I'm currently waiting for the referral to see an orthopedic surgeon.
I've had lots of surgeries in my life, so another one won't cause much distress. I am just hoping that the problems in my hand can be fixed. I make a living using my hands and I've already had to take more breaks and go about doing things differently to accommodate the problem.
Thanks,
Ed
BTW, for playing on Xbox, I find myself not being able to hold the controller long before I feel my middle finger begin to swell. It's very obvious when I put the controller down. As a result, I haven't been playing much Xbox lately. It's similar when I'm at the computer using a mouse for long periods of time.
