Netflix Newbie Question

Legacy of Elijah Guild Leader
Just signed up for a Netflix trial, and have been going through stuff. Seems to be a LOT of perverted movies on there. Is there any way to change the content that shows up? I know you can do so simply by rating, but an R-rated suspense movie isn't the same thing as a teen sex movie, and I wish I could somehow filter one out and not the other.

Anyone have any workarounds?

Q:
Do you have parental controls for movies that I watch instantly on my PC?
A:
You can limit movie ratings allowed for watching instantly by setting the maturity level on your account.
This blocks watching titles with forbidden ratings, as well as requiring a password when you add DVDs with those ratings to that profile’s Queue.
To set the maturity level:
- Go to Your Account.
- Under Preferences, click on "Account Profiles"
- In the Change column, click on "Edit".
- Set the maturity level.
Please note that watching instantly is only available on the main account. Additional profiles will not be able to watch instantly.

It took a while - but I took the time and rated a ton of movies. Now the suggested movies seldom have the crap titles that used to pop up.

We do most of our TV viewing via Netflix or hulu.com - we dumped cable.

Ditto, er well we never had cable to dump but otherwise the same.

Thanks for the responses guys. Just choosing by rating didn't work for me, but I was hoping rating every movie I saw would help weed some of that out. Glad to hear it does because it's pretty disheartening to see the selection there.

I set mine by survey and rating a bunch, now it gives me family and animated family like veggie tales.

Another important rating is "Not Interested." I think that has more impact than rating it one star.

it took about three months, but netflix started suggesting things just be the watching habits of my kids.

In fact, since they are the primary consumers of netflix, I have to actively search for other material as nothing on the "home" page is... well, not Backyardigans and similar shows.

Yeah, our primary user will be my 2yo. She likes VeggieTales and Spongebob. Other than that Brittany and I would just like to preview movies without seeing all the smut. Will definitely try the "not interested" for that.
