Essau

New Member
Hey guys

Few more goofy questions:

How can I tell if a item is "giveable" or can be passed to another toon.
For example: Could Essau do a "WC quest and get for example:the Talbar Mantle, could he pass it to another toon?

On a related topic: What does it mean when a item is labeled "soulbound"?
Maybe thats the answer to my first question.

Thanks

Soulbound

The property of an item that prevents it from being traded or mailed to another character or sold in the Auction House.
Items usually become soulbound one of five ways:
  • Items given as quest rewards are usually soulbound.
  • Looting an item or accepting an item from a quest that is identified as "Bind on pickup." You should get a warning alert that this item will bind to you.
  • Equipping an item that is identified as "Bind on equip." You should get a warning alert that this item will bind to you. Most of the better equippable items bind on equip.
  • Using an item that is identified as "Bind on Use."
  • Using certain soulbound enchants on a non-bound item.
Soulbinding is a game mechanism to prevent too much twinking from occurring. Higher-level characters cannot give their older equipment as hand-me-downs to their friends and guild mates.
Note that you can have soulbound items modified by other characters by putting the item in the bottom ("Will Not Be Traded") spot of the trade window. You can have a blacksmith attach spurs to a soulbound boot, or an enchanter apply an enchantment to a soulbound item this way

Soulbound items answer your first question. Mainly, Bind on Equip can be shared with others, Bind on Pickup is for your character only.

You can give any item that is listed as Bind on Equip (commonly referred to BoE). The moment you equip an item, it is bound to you and it becomes soulbound.

BoE items are almost always found as world drops and off trash in dungeons.

The other item classification that can drop are known as Bind on Pickup (aka, BoPs). These items become soulbound the moment you pick it up.

Soulbound items can not be traded to other toons or sold on the Auction house. If you want to rid yourself of it, the only options are to sell it to a vendor and some items can't even be sold, they have to be destroyed.

So, when you find a BoE item, you will always have a choice of what to do with it until you equip it on a toon. Once it is equiped, what you can do becomes limited. You can always have an item enchanted by an enchanter regardless of if it is soulbound or not, that is what the "do not trade" box is in the trade interface for. Some items start of as BoE and become BoP the moment they are enchanted but, they are soulbound to you, not the enchanter.

There is a third set of item drops called quest items. These are items that drop off mobs that you are required to collect for a quest. Almost all quest items are bind on pickup. The only ones that are not are items for repeatable quest.

A fourth set of items are quest rewards, which are always bind on pickup, and you pick them up by completing the quest.
