Heres the verse of the King James Bible:

"Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes,
nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat."

What do you believe this verse is really saying to Christians
of today?

You need to read the verse in context with the whole passage.

In Matthew 10:5-15, Jesus sends out the twelve apostles. He says in verse 8, "... You received without paying; give without pay." Then verse 9, "Acquire no gold nor silver nor copper for your belts..." What does this say to us Christians today? When doing missionary work, don't do it to make a buck, but rather do it because Jesus calls you to it.

The Scripture I quoted is taken from the ESV.

To add a little, it is important as a missionary to a foreign people to dress as they do. If these people did not have 2 coats and only wore sandals and not shoes, you should do likewise.

This helps remove any stumbling blocks in getting the full gospel to the people.

i agree in the context of missionaries.

Also

I Jesus was conveying that one shouldn't focus all of one's time on how WE get OURSELVES ready for the journey (or for witnessing, or for just being a missionary to people in our own lives). We should focus on how God will get us ready for the journey. We should let God prepare out way. We should depend on God.

(that way on our journey we can't point back to ourselves and say that WE prepared our way thus we had success... ) I agree with the context of noting doing ministry work to make to buck. But i also agree that it says we should Rely on God, not our own preparation.
