I am somewhat new to the PC game relm. I have grown up with Nintendo my whole life, but unfortunately my wife and I sold our Cube for some personal reasons. I am looking for some good options for some good "family" games, they don't have to be simple games but I want something with depth.

I have played CIV III before and liked it, but that seems like ages ago. I know there are ALOT out on the market now. I am leaning towards a good Strategy game, but one thing seems to confuse me...sorry to be so dumb in this area...what is the difference between a Real-time and Turn-based strategy game and which is better in game play mechanics and style? Any help is appreciated thanks! :

WarCraft III is a relatively new and is an extremely tactical and competitive strategy game. The singleplayer story campaign is very good, and the multiplayer is a whole lot of fun, too.

Turn-based is pretty simple; it's like chess. One player moves, and then another. You take turns, and you never get one step ahead of another. It has nothing to do with speed, and it emphasizes more on the opponent's previous move. However, real-time is more difficult. Not only do you have to be fast and think quickly, but you have to race your opponent to certain strategies and resources. It is much more tactical than turn-based, because it requires a mix of good strategy, speed, and quick decision making.

Both games are fun to play, but for the PC I prefer real-time strategy games. They're also a whole lot more popular right now than turn-based strategy games.

Good luck with finding a game you like!

It would also have to depend on your PC's system requirements or what specifications your PC has/is.

Games that have depth are more likely to advanced, so if you got a PC barely running minimum requirements, tough luck.

In relations to the Civiliation games, there is, Age of Empires or the newly version, Age of Empires 3.

If your into Strategy games that have of Old Ages, then AoE3 and/or Warcraft 3 is your pick.

May I suggest that you try out EVE Online. It is indeed a pay-and-play game but if you look for something with depth, EVE is probably a decent game :)

The theme is a space adventure with an open end. You do not gain levels like in WoW, instead you train skills (in real time) and qualify for access to more aspects of the game as time goes by.

If you want to try it, just drop me a private message and I'll e-mail you a trial account. Initial cost to play (not the trial account) is 19.95 Euro and then 14.95 Euro per month, less if you pay for several month at the time.

Check http://www.eve-online.com for info, screens, videos and the like.

There is a Tribe of Judah chapter pending for EVE Online and a corporation created with me as founder and CEO.

Command and Conquer Series is Amazing it is An RTS = Real Time Strategy. If you like Turn Based check out Shattered Union.
