As I mentioned in the "Quitting software piracy" thread, several forum members download anime fansubs.
While the issue of software piracy is fairly simple, fansubs involve a legal "gray area." One should, according to the claims of most fansub groups, delete any copy of fansubbed titles once a series is licensed for US distribution. Unfortunately, US distribution nearly always entails heavily inflated prices, horrible English voice acting, and poor translations. If one wants to watch an anime series on television, that person is forced to endure voice acting so terrible that it may well ruin the endearing aspects of the series.
Is it immoral to keep fansubbed anime after a series has been licensed in the US? If not, is it immoral to keep fansubbed anime after US distributers have made that series available for purchase in the US?
Discuss.
