I did get it.

I loved it.

"No one at Blizzard plays a paladin"

Sounds like my running joke that all Blizzard executives play Shaman and Druids.

To give a little more backstory. There has been a major complaint in the blizzard pally forums that none of the CMs play pally. This prompted fangtooth to role a paladin recently. Also, paladin was the only class not represented in the recent PVP contest for the video card. Hence the last line.

The video is extremely funny. But being a pally, it is a sad reminder too.

Personally, I love playing paladin. You can't beat a paladin's ability to solo multiple mobs or single high level mobs without fear of dying. I love all the things I get to do in a group right now. I can help tank, dps, heal or prevent wipes depending on the current needs. What other class can do all that for a group?

But PVP is really starting to grate on me. I love that I can survive for a ridiculous amount of time if my cool downs are up. It took a full minute for three level 60s to take me down the other day.

Most annoying thing about being a paly is our choice to stay in a fight is based on a 60 minute cool down. Blink, fear, scream, hamstring, stealth, traps, ghostwolf, totems, root... The time it takes to cleanse, shield or BoF out of it, they have a several yard lead. Leads to one frustrated paladin who spent all his cool downs and mana to stay in a fight only to have the other player run off. Frustrating beyond belief for a strict melee class.

Since I am retribution spec'd, I am trying to combat lack of a snare and range attack with engineering and (thanks to fjorboug) my recent aquisition of linken's boomerang. I am waiting to see how these play out before I respec to holy or protection.

I am still a bit of from high end content, but from what I read I am a bit worried. It looks like high end content consists of casting blessings and cleanse the majority of the time. After spending 59 levels runing head first into battle, spending the remaining of your game time as a "buff bot", I can see why there are a lot of pallies complaining.

well hello but ill keep all the pleasentries for the next post for now ill comment here.

i thought it was funny video. pallys of course have a huge down side in pvp with no CC or range (*holy shock) but i loved mine. maybe holy is the way to go. maybe ppl fear doing it becasue they want to get all the dps they can from retri.

i felt like i could heal pretty good in pvp, ill you all decide that tho since you were on the recieving end alot of the time. as a holy pally i was able to use all my mana usually b4 the grp wiped in our small raids which was at least 13k hps. +more if i used the more efficient heal and any mana gained over time from regen. + lay on hands if i used that. so bascially pumping that much hps back into the grp can easily turn the tide. and with healers in demand, a pally healing with everything they got is the difference between winning battles and losing them and the difference over a week of advancing in rank and a week remaining.

divine shield and BoProt helped ensure i was the last one to die which allowed for more heals to be passed around. though i liked to save BoProt for the mages so any rogues would have to endure about 10 AE's before they could start takign swings at the mage.

pallys have some huge ups and huge downs, the rollercoaster effect makes them seem unbalanced depending on how you look at them but in all honesty i thoguht they were fine. tho i would never say that as an active player becasue ill take all the love i can get ;)

ok theres a retired, grumpy, mean, old pallys take on it. go ahead and tear me apart.

Well lookee here, its Camma ma boy. Paladins are a high defense character. They are almost impossible to beat... i never beat a paladin with my warlock, never. Like you said sandric, it takes alot of horde to kill you. They are made for defense and defend is what they do, very well i might add. But you have to make sacrifices if you wanna make a character like that. Pve or pvp is the question you must answer. If they give the paladin more dps, then they give people who play warriors a lesser chance of getting into groups for raids and instances. Why settle for a normal warrior when you could have one that has healing spells and such? Warlocks need some (much needed) TLC too, if i may add that.................

Just the way i take it.

Even if you gave us more DPS, we would not replace a true tank for raids. Our major heal takes us out of combat for at least 2.5 seconds, but if we are MT, you can probably double/triple that even if we have concentration/spiritual focus. For 2.5-7 seconds we are not generated threat as our heal does not generate any where near the threat of a priests heal or a rogue and mage's damage.

Since a paly can only focus threat on a single target (unless spamming consecrate eating mana), any mobs that are now attacking the squishier group members requires the paly to try to pull them back. I would probably have to BoP the squishy, judge fury, righteousness and concescrate for a loss of some 500 mana just to pull that mob back on me. Not good loosing 500 mana if I am required to heal too.

Besides, I would rather not be the MT in a group. I would find it really boring. I would rather be running around the group helping out where needed. Blessings, seals and judgements can be changed quickly enough that the real challenge with a paladin is adapting to the needs of the group and when things go really bad, figuring out the best time to use shields/Divine Intervention.

As far as respeccing to holy or prot for better PVP maybe something I do at closer to 60. But for leveling (still have 8 levels), I am going to continue with retribution and my free critical heal every 2 minutes.

Then why not just play a druid? They play many roles in battle. Healer, tank and their cat is a great damage dealer (peeling). :)

I have a druid alt too just to see how they play. But one thing I already notice is I can play those roles at any time as a pally while what I do as a druid is highly dependant on the form I am in. Plus druids simply don't have the wipe prevention skills that a pally has.

I bet good druids can prevent a wipe as well as some paladins can.. if the player behind the char is good enough. And the druid's cat form damage is almost as good as rogue dmg output right? So you would think that a druid can peel better. I dont know. I dont know for sure. I have never had a paladin... theyve always come across as boaring to me. Druids can change shape and play many roles, and they seem alot more intresting. But there is a 99.9999999999999999999% chance that i may be wrong :)

It's cool being a paladin, cause you can solo 3 creeps your level and then be jumped by a Horde and still come out alive, lol.

I've played both a druid and a paladin (although not very high as a paladin, and only up to 37 on the druid).

Both classes are really versatile. I think the druid can be more effective filling in specific roles due to the different forms, but switching roles is not as easy as for a paladin. Changing to bear form, you need time to build up rage. Switching to cat form, you have to wait for energy to build. Not only that, but this all comes at the expense of mana.

Paladins, on the other hand, can switch roles very readily to fit the situation. My initial impression of a paladin is that it's easier to stay alive as a paladin as well.

Like any class, though, the effectiveness of the class depends on the player behind it - someone else's experience might be completely different from mine.
