I need professional support...

Okay, so here's the dealio... Somehow, I've gotten my girlfriend interested in playing Guild Wars. Basically, she told me she wanted to play it. And now, I wasn't sure if I was entirely awake when I thought that happened, but then she said it again today, soooooo... I'm not sure whether to be excited or worried that something's wrong.

All that to say that we're making her a character tonight (which is why I said I might be making it to PvP), but I have no idea what class. I've given her a run-down on all the profs, and she seems to like Ele just from my VERY rough description ("elementalist = uses magic like fire or water, etc").

I've never actually played an Ele myself though, so I really don't know how hard it is, but I need pretty much the most basic and easy-to-learn combo. Any thoughts? Think fast--she get's off at 8.

What chapter mate? And don't worry too much. Ele's are pretty easy in the early stages. They pretty much give you your first set of skill. Pick an element to go towards though.....I like fire best. Seems to work well for PvE type stuff. If your going straight into PvP.......I'm at a loss there.

Hope that helps some.

When i started off with my ele I used a moddes version of searing flames, without the searing flames elite. Heres what i used, immolate, glowing gaze, liquid flame, fire attunment, aura of restoration, meteor shower, res, and another optional skill like fire storm or fireball.

Bad thing is meteor shower is a skill in tyria and all the rest of the skills you can get mainly in elona. Fire magic is usually the type favored by eles.

Fire is the easiest and most common. However I started the game as an Air Ele. My ele is my first character. So Basically let her choose what element she thinks she would like and Go with it. Earth is Awesome as well. The weakest is Water. I think the ele is one of the easiest characters to learn on. She will have no problem finding groups. That and I hope she will play with us :).

I have all the chapters, so don't worry about that. Don't get too technical with builds and stuff. She's really not much of a gamer at all (she had a Sega Genesis and now she plays my Wii, that's it), so imagine your grandma playing it... assuming your g-ma is like mine...

Thanks, Dredd, I'll keep that in mind. Now that you mention it, I think it first got brought up because I was all excited about my cape design and telling her about it, and then she wanted to vote for it, but I said she'd have to join the guild... ya never know! :p

All the starter areas are pretty equal to some degree as far as difficulty. I might suggest that you pick the one you would want to play in case she gives up, then you can take the character over, if you want to.

Fire is definately the most commonly used among ele's. At the starter levels, the flare skill makes it easy to want to do fire too. I used air once I got up a few levels and got a few more skills as well. Earth can be deadly as well, but starts to lean into the support character role with wards and a few of the other skills. Water magic is almost completely unused. I think there is some great potential there, but their true power is more in the support role for crowd control.

For a starter I'd suggest fire to begin with and air if you can help her find a few skills to fill up a skill bar. Flare is one of the freebie skills and can pretty much be spammed almost endlessly during most normal fights with other skills thrown in as necessary. In air magic, lightning orb followed by lightning strike is a pretty simple combo.

RubberDucky, I believe you and me have a new student. ;)

Fire is easiest to start with since you pretty much burn everything and then die when you get overwhelmed (in the early parts! you get better at it as you go along) unless you know what you're doing, but later on the skills' energy requirements demand careful choice of build to make sure you don't get swamped with 2 energy left over. Air is all right, I guess, and probably 2nd most popular. It's more of a spike and pwn fast before they get YOU, while fire is an AoE deal, ("Area of Effect") with longer cast times and higher energy costs and slower effects but generally more powerful spells, IMO. Water... eh... I've never used it, EVER. However, there's a lot of wacko-neato hexes at your disposal to slow down the enemy. Earth is defensive and popular in PvP lately (I think) for the wards (you know, Ward vs. Melee, etc.) and is defensive it seems with a couple personal armor buffs, but there are some good attack spells like Obsidian Flame and Earthquake and Eruption and stuff.

Just remember to tell her NOT to be around the front lines, at all, whatsover, ever, and under no conditions unless she's using one of Atown's crazily awesome Ele tank builds  eles have less-than-decent armor, especially against melee junk.

First of, Rangers are the best.

ANYWAY! have her start in Tyria, im sure shed like Pre-Searing and its nice to start at the beggining. Tyria or Elona, NOT CANTHA! Cantha is the best place for someone NOT to come to GW. (sry any and all Faction fans) Cantha is still alright and i enjoy playing it, just not always. and if you ever need any help let us know. and have her watch PvP tonight, it may spark some more interest.

Okay, so we finally made her a character. It ended up being an Ele, that was actually the easy part...

Gracious, it was the most greuling process! First, she debated on the face, then looked at the Nightfall faces, then went back to choose one of the Prophecies faces. She got the hairstyle pretty easy, but THEN was the color and she couldn't decide between dirty blond or blue.

"The dirty blond looks like me." "Then again, this is a game. It's not like I'm ever going to have blue hair in real life..." "Okay, so the dirty blond says 'I'm cute; I'm charming; I'm chill' but the blue says 'I'm daring. I'm going to smite you!"

So I said, skip the hair and do the armor, then we can come back. And THAT took forever. But eventually she got the normal hair with all white (grey) armor. Then was the name. (*cries*) And by now, she was all stressed about her test, so after a (long) while, I just gave her the name Lisey Munroe. Lisey after her name, Alise. And Munroe after Storm's (from x-men) last name which is why she wanted to be an Ele.

Soooooo... if you see her around, feel free to say hi. She's just using my account, so she's already in the guild. Later!

lol im not good with names either, sounds like you had a fun time :)

ANOTHER ONE FOR THE CAUSE!

This is funny to me because recently one of my best friends who is also a girl has gotten really interested in gaming as a result of hanging out with my friends and I. We even got her playing WoW with us :D We named her character "KittyGiggles" hahahahahaha

Getting your female friends to game with you is so much fun.

The MOST important thing is that you let her make a character SHE really likes. How do you think my husband got me addicted to D&D? :)
