In the annals of extravagant virtual video game purchases, a Chinese man may have set a new bar.
He spent $16,000 on a virtual sword… for a game that’s not even out yet.
The game is called ‘Age of Wulin’. It’s a Chinese MMORPG from an outfit called Snail Games.
As absurd as spending $16,000 on a virtual anything might seem to the majority of us, the virtual economy on Planet Earth is a large one and it’s growing–a recent document puts a $3 billion valuation on it.
In addition to the $16,000 virtual sword, The Daily Mail in the U.K. reports two other virtual items were sold for ‘Age of Wulin’ with price points at $2,500 and $1,600.
The English version of Age of Wulin is expected to be headed stateside following the Chinese open beta this spring.
